CBS's NCIS is one of the longest-running procedurals on the network, which debuted in 2003.
The show follows the Major Case Response Team, working in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, where Special agents investigate criminal activities concerning the US Navy.
The show's popularity paved the way for many spin-offs like NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney.
According to Screen Rant, the procedural was confirmed for Season 23, and here is everything we know about the upcoming season.
NCIS Season 23 will likely air in Fall 2025
In February 2025, CBS confirmed the renewal of many shows for the 2025-26 year, with its longest-running procedural, NCIS.
The show has been a fall staple on the network for many years and is the biggest project to air every fall, even after many new shows and spin-offs. While the network has not confirmed a release date for Season 23 yet, a report in Parade suggests the show will likely return in Fall 2025, like the previous seasons.
With five episodes remaining in NCIS Season 22, the story details of the upcoming season are hard to predict. In addition, the procedural follows a new case in every episode, which adds to the series' uniqueness.
However, it remains to be seen whether Season 22 will tease or hint at some cast changes for Season 23. But if everything goes well in the Season 22 finale, fans can expect the whole team to return for another season.
Expected cast in NCIS Season 23
Since there is no official confirmation on who will return in Season 23, the current cast will likely return for another chapter.
It includes Sean Murray as Timothy McGee. Murray is one of the few cast members who has remained with the show since Season 1. Gary Cole will also return as Supervisory Special Agent Alden Parker.
The current cast of CBS's procedural is as follows:
- Katrina Law as Jessica Knight
- Sean Murray as Timothy McGee
- Wilmer Valderrama as Agent Nick Torres
- Brian Dietzen as Dr. Jimmy Palmer
- Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines
- Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance
Law's Jessica Knight became a series regular in Season 19 and was working with her prior team, specializing in hostage negotiation and high-risk operations. One of the storylines in the current season follows Knight adjusting to her new role, and it remains to be seen whether she will stay with the new team or leave NCIS for good.
NCIS Season 22 will feature a familiar guest star
With five episodes remaining in the current season, star Brian Dietzen teased the return of a familiar face in the show's upcoming season in an interview with Collider. While many cast members leave the show after some seasons, they often return as guest stars, and it looks like the latest season is about to get a familiar guest appearance.
Dietzen teased:
''I just did a scene with a wonderful guest star who you're definitely going to recognize, and I can't talk about yet. But, but, teaser: it's, it's one that I think our fans are really going to love... With 22 years of catalog, you go back to a lot of people. But yeah, it's pretty cool. Definitely a fan-favorite.''
Dietzan's comments hint that the show will get a fan-favorite character's cameo before the current season ends.
The next episode will air on March 24, 2025, on CBS.
