Here's everything that we know about the latest episode.
What happened on the latest episode of NCIS season 22?
The latest episode began with a revealing dream sequence, which found McGee dressed up as Gibbs as he pours himself a drink like his superior. He is in the basement and, upon spotting an Alaska postcard, is reminded that he's not Gibbs after all. He then spots Gibbs on the TV in the room and upon hearing footsteps upstairs in the room, wonders if it's Gibbs. It turns out to be Laroche, who shoots McGee down, following which McGee wakes up on his desk.
McGee's obsession with pinning the blame on Laroche seems to have escalated to obsessive levels as he has been slogging it in the office for three nights straight. Park told him to go back home, but McGee categorically refused. While leaving for his car, McGee is once again thrown on Laroche's trail as the latter drives off in his own car without the presence of his newly deployed security detail. Once McGee starts trailing Laroche, the latter switches cars before ending up at a desolate power plant. As McGee watches on from a distance, Laroche is seen pulling out his gun and shooting someone.
McGee unexpectedly makes a sound, and Laroche is caught off guard. They start running, and in due course, McGee is almost killed by a truck. Once, after catching his breath, he discovers that Laroche is nowhere to be found, and even the truck driver claims not to have seen him. McGee is now faced with the unenviable position on NCIS season twenty-two of being identified as someone who is adamant about bringing his superior down because he covets the job after all.
Moving on, the latest NCIS episode then shifted gears to focus on the recent case of robbery that has caught the attention of the bureau. The perpetrators in the case had used a military-grade signal jammer for the robbery, and it also involved a truck with a forged registration. While going through the signal log of the jammer, the investigators are pointed in the direction of Arliss Pinketon, who also goes by the name of Crispin Shaker Jr. Laroche's connection to the robbery starts to surface as one of Shaker Jr.'s associates is found to be the one who was killed by Laroche himself. It now seems apparent on NCIS that Laroche was responsible for the robbery since he needed the cash and had hired the group of thieves to take out the Nexus truck.
Nevertheless, before McGee can gather clinching evidence to the effect of Laroche's criminal deeds, he is handed down a professional complaint for misconduct, harassment of power, and abuse by Inspector General Ward. While McGee tries to talk his way out of this at first, denouncing the complaint as a personal vendetta brought to bear against McGee by Laroche and the fact that Laroche is using her as a lowly pawn in his game, Ward puts the allegations across the table.
NCIS season 22 episode 19: McGee faces charges
Ward informs McGee on the latest episode of NCIS that McGee's actions, including his setting up alerts to monitor Laroche's use of his keycard, breaking into Laroche's home office, and the likes, are enough to warrant the charges against him. McGee declares that he is willing to go on the stand and attest to Laroche's criminal charges, but Ward would have none of it. She suggests sending off McGee to an indefinite suspension before bringing up formal charges of defamation. Ward eventually ends up confiscating McGee's phone after the latter reveals his phone has alerted him about Laroche's presence inside the evidence garage.
The NCIS team soon conclusively connects Laroche to the robbery as one of the deputy director's favorite mints is found on the body of the deceased robber. McGee sets forth on his own quest, leaving behind Ward's interrogation requesting a lawyer to represent him. Meanwhile, the team connects one of the deceased with Laroche as the latter's partial print is discovered on the former's person. Ward finally sees the merit of the case and then gives the green signal to apprehend Laroche, who by now, is fleeing in a van along with the evidence.
As Laroche meets with Shaker to get what is owed to him, McGee barges in on the two of them. Laroche initially tries to throw McGee off guard by complimenting the way he firmly holds the gun and his stance, adding that his boss, Gibbs, would certainly be proud of him. He ends by stating that McGee doesn't necessarily have to kill him after all. Shaker jumps the gun and fires on McGee, promptly inviting Laroche's fire. For a moment, it appeared on NCIS that McGee was shot in the shoulder. Soon afterward, the team arrives to clean up, and Laroche surrenders as the latter claims to have saved McGee's life.
