Mariel Molino, who plays Lala, told TV Insider that the finale showcases her speaking for herself for the first time, and this is going to transform her bond with Gibbs in future episodes.

“This is the first episode that has Lala standing up for herself. There’s a big moment between Frank and Lala, where Lala finally sees the value in herself. She goes into crazy overdrive trying to figure out how to make sure that Gibbs is not arrested.”

She also suggested that Gibbs' character development is going to be crucial and contrasting to who Gibbs becomes, and it is because of something that Lala does unknowingly.

"Lala does something in the finale that he doesn’t know she did. It is the reason that Gibbs becomes who he becomes years later. It’s a question that is brought up in later seasons of NCIS that Gibbs himself doesn’t know the answer to.” Molino said to TV Insider.

The primary cast will be returning in the new season, such as Austin Stowell as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Kyle Schmid as Mike Franks, Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Tyla Abercrumbie as Mary Jo Sullivan, and Diany Rodriguez as Vera Strickland, among others.
