Both NCIS and NCIS: Origins are considered two of the most beloved police procedurals, each focusing on crime-solving. The flagship series debuted in 2003, focusing on Leroy Jethro Gibbs's leadership and skills, while its prequel is set during his early days at the NIS.

As the show continued, Gibbs's leadership eventually passed to Supervisory Special Agent, Alden Parker, and now, fans can witness his early days in the prequel NCIS: Origins Season 1. The newly released show delves into Gibbs’ early career as he starts working at NCIS Camp Pendleton and investigates his first major murder case.

Since its arrival, fans have been curious to explore Gibbs's journey, but NCIS and NCIS: Origins are on a temporary break this week and will not air new episodes. The reason? CBS has planned to broadcast a special concert, Ringo & Friends at the Ryman, on March 10, 2025.

Since NCIS was replaced by the concert, CBS reran an episode of NCIS: Origins instead of a new one. Such scheduling changes are common among TV shows, especially when networks plan to air major events or specials.

Fans might have waited for a new episode of NCIS Season 22 on March 10 at 9 p.m. ET, but CBS aired Ringo and Friends at the Ryman during that time. Following the broadcast, CBS released NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 13, 'Monsoon,' instead of the new episode at 10 p.m. ET.

As previously explained, this change was due to the special concert which aired on the network. Apart from CBS’s programming decision, the fires in Los Angeles have also been causing production delays, which slowed down the filming process.

However, fans won’t have to wait too long, as NCIS and NCIS: Origins are set to return on Monday, March 24, 2025. The upcoming episodes are NCIS Season 22, Episode 15, 'Moonlit,' and NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 14.

In the new episodes, the officers will face new challenges and criminals while dealing with personal issues.

Yes. Leroy Jethro Gibbs is set to return for NCIS: Origins Season 2, as the prequel has been well-received by fans. The new show stars Austin Stowell as the iconic character from the franchise, with the plot set in 1991.

Since the prequel highlights the early days, his team is led by Mike Franks, a seasoned and respected agent who becomes Gibbs’ mentor. Additionally, Mark Harmon, the actor behind Gibbs in the flagship series, has lent his voice to the prequel.

Following the renewal of the hit TV shows, Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said:

"This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers."

She continued:

"These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season."
