Nautilus: Release date, plot, cast and more revealed

Fans of Jules Verne would be thrilled to know that Nautilus - the scrapped adaptation of 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea' is set to make a return on Prime Video. Back in 2021, the show was already streaming on Disney Plus. After encountering some unforeseen difficulties in 2023, it was canceled by the streaming platform causing an upset among fans.

Verne is known for his deeply thrilling adventure genre of books that have entertained a generation of readers. From boomers to Gen-Z, Verne's elusive mind concocts some of the best-written adventure stories of the century. Naturally, viewers remain ecstatic about the return of Nautilus to the big screen.

When is Nautilus set to release?

Nautilus is officially set to release later this year on 25th October, 2024. As mentioned, the show will be available to stream on Prime Video for viewers from the UK and Ireland on the aforementioned date.

Before the streaming platform acquired the rights to release it, Disney Plus dropped it due to budgetary cuts. However, the series is set to make a triumphant return. Furthermore, Nautilus is set to have 10 episodes as confirmed by the creators of the show.


What is the plot of Nautilus?

According to Verne's book, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the plot of Nautilus revolves around the electric Captain Nemo and his journey across the ocean. Captain Nemo in the story is an Indian prince-turned-captain who had his prestige, birthright, and assets robbed by the crafty East India Mercantile Company.

Hungry for revenge and vengeful, Captain Nemo embarks on the adventure of a lifetime with a not-so-noble crew across a perilous ocean. He battles imploring villains, and obscure sea creatures and uncovers the true magic hiding beneath an elusive ocean.

All this he does aboard a whimsical yet powerful ship that accompanies him and his motley crew through thick and thin. The live-action is sure to encapsulate Verne's vision on screen offering viewers an enticing experience.


The cast of Nautilus revealed

There are a plethora of dedicated actors and actresses part of this mammoth project. The cast includes Shazad Latif (Captain Nemo), Georgia Flood (Humility Lucas), Thierry Fremont (Gustave Benoit), Celine Menville (Loti), Jacob Collins-Levy (Captain Youngblood), and more who will share the big screen.

Nautilus will also have quite a few guest stars including veteran actor Richard E. Grant known for his roles in The Lesson, Can You Ever Forgive Me? and other cinematic treats. Appearing alongside him are Anna Torov, and Noah Taylor whose roles momentarily remain under wraps.


Where can you watch Nautilus?

The cast and crew for Nautilus had just wrapped up filming in August 2023, when Disney Plus scrapped it. Since announcing the takeover, Prime Video has yet to release an official trailer for the upcoming show. Nautilus will be available on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.


Is Nautilus' adaptation of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea a true story?

Nautilus is based on 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea' - a science fiction book authored by Jules Verne in 1870. Hence, it is not based on a true story.
