In response, the creators—Rob McElhenney, Megan Ganz, and David Hornsby—decided to update the season four finale to provide a proper closure, ensuring the series ends on a meaningful note rather than an abrupt conclusion.

Mythic Quest had to face an end because Apple TV+ released Side Quest, a four-episode anthology spin-off that explores the lives of individuals impacted by the game within the Mythic Quest universe. The series features new characters and stories, offering fans an expanded look into the show's world.

The show's creators and cast have expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to bring Mythic Quest to life. Megan Ganz acknowledged that "endings are hard".

"Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, 'Mythic Quest' is coming to a close," Ganz said.

Other creators of Mythic Quest, such as Rob and David Hornsby, also thanked all the cast and crew members for making the show a success. They also mentioned updating the final episode after Apple's decision came out to give a better ending to the show.

"We're so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple's blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over." Further added Rob and David Hornsby, according to reports.

The show ended, showcasing Poppy and Ian growing apart. Poppy embarks on a new journey, leaving Mythic Quest behind, while Ian grapples with the evolving dynamics within the studio.

The show has received a 7.7/10 rating on IMDB and a 97% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, after its finale season dropped on January 20, 2025.
