With its release in February 2020, Apple TV's comedy series Mythic Quest elevated the workplace comedy genre to a new level. Reminiscent of workplace comedies like The Office, Parks and Recreation, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the show follows a group of employees who work at a fictional video game studio and develop many games.

After working on many obscure games, the company finally climbed the ladder of success with Mythic Quest, which became an instantly popular MMORPG. The game featured on the show has massive landscapes to explore, many character avatars, and side-quests, hitting too close to home for actual gamers, leading to people thinking that the show is based on an actual game.

But in reality, Mythic Quest does not explore an actual video game. The game featured is purely fictional but draws inspiration from popular MMORPG.

More on Apple TV comedy's inspiration from actual video games in our story.

Mythic Quest has ties with a major video game publisher

As mentioned earlier, Mythic Quest is not based on an actual game, but it draws inspiration from various aspects of other video games. Rooting with an actual video game would have restricted the team's creative power, and the show would not be able to explore the various aspects of the game it does now.

Keeping the game fictional gives them the creative freedom to tap into unchartered territories of the video game.

And while the show is not based on an actual game, it does have ties with a major video game publisher, Ubisoft. Ubisoft, the popular French video game publisher, serves as a production company on the show through their Ubisoft Film & Television. Assassin's Creed and Werewolves Within are some films that are produced under Ubisoft.

It was earlier reported that Ubisoft contributed various video game assets for the show, which are featured as side quests and character cards on the Apple TV comedy.

The company has also been able to expand its role in multimedia with Mythic Quest. It offers consultation on technical matters to make the show feel more authentic to actual gamers, who are also an audience for the show.

Are there any online games that are reminiscent of Mythic Quest?

Saying Mythic Quest is not based on an actual game does not mean that the game featured in the show will not remind you of other MMORPGs. With Ubisoft on board, the show takes inspiration from many actual games, but viewers have mostly linked it with Blizzard Entertainment's popular video game World of Warcraft (WoW).

Released in 2004, WoW gained instant commercial success and is now the most-played MMORPG of all time. The game allows its players to choose a character avatar from their vast library and complete side quests, explore exotic landscapes through carefully curated maps, and fight monsters.

Audiences of the show have linked the video game with Wow, as it also heavily features many character avatars, in-game purchases (like the shovel from the Pilot), and side quests like Raven's Banquet, which are very similar to the actual MMORPG.

In addition to WoW, viewers have also linked it to many Ubisoft games like Assassin's Creed and For Horror and the Elder Scroll series.
