In an emotional episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, cast member Bozoma Saint John shared her heartbreaking journey with pregnancy loss. Recounting the loss of her first daughter, Eve, at six-and-a-half months of pregnancy due to complications from preeclampsia, she revealed:
"My baby didn't survive."
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills follows the lives of affluent women in one of America's most exclusive neighborhoods. While the show usually serves up glamour and drama, this episode took a different turn. Bozoma had a touching conversation with her boyfriend Keely Watson about her past struggles with pregnancy and her hopes for the future.
Her story resonated with viewers as she described both the joy and fear that come with considering pregnancy after loss, especially as a mature woman exploring fertility options.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills's Bozoma Saint John’s journey with fertility
Bozoma's first pregnancy came unexpectedly, but complications arose quickly.
"The experiences of pregnancy have not been easy for me," she explained.
Elaborating:
"Five months into my pregnancy, I discovered that I had early stages of preeclampsia, a disease that creates high blood pressure and starts to attack your pregnancy."
The complications led to an emergency hospitalization, where she was immediately admitted to labor and delivery. Despite the loss, Bozoma's determination to become a mother remained strong:
"Two months after I lost Eve, I decided that I was meant to be a mother and wanted to have another baby."
Her journey to motherhood continued with her late husband, Peter Saint John. The couple welcomed their daughter, Lael Saint John, in 2009. However, the pregnancy was far from easy. Bozoma described it as "horrific," filled with "terror" at every doctor's appointment.
"I would have to squeeze Peter's hand because, what if?" she recalled.
The anxiety of potential complications loomed over the entire experience.
Now, Bozoma is exploring the possibility of having another child with her boyfriend Keely Watson as documented on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. But the prospect brings both hope and anxiety.
"Because I'm a mature woman, you would assume I have to get checked out to see if I'm still viable to be able to carry a baby and Keeley's ready," she shared.
Adding:
The reality of pursuing pregnancy again has stirred up past emotions. "This pregnancy journey was in theory and now it's reality. If I'm gonna get some needles poked into me, that makes it very very real," she admitted.
"I was really excited but now I'm nervous. I feel scared. What if we don't get the results we want?"
Looking forward for Bozoma
Bozoma's candid confessional revealed the complexity of her emotions about a potential future pregnancy.
"While it's exciting and hopeful to think about having a baby with Keely, I can't help but go right back to those days where I was scared to death every single day of my pregnancy," she said on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Her concerns are amplified by the passage of time:
"I am 15 years older than the last [time] I had this issue. I need some assurances, and I don't know how to get that."
By sharing her story on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Bozoma has opened up an important conversation about pregnancy loss, fertility, and the courage it takes to pursue motherhood after trauma.
