German crime comedy series Murder Mindfully arrived on Netflix on 31 October 2024, bringing a darkly comedic new series to the streaming service. Based on the crime novel of the same name by Karsten Dusse, the TV script was written by Doron Wisotzky.
Murder Mindfully brings out the story of Björn Diemel, a successful lawyer who becomes an unconscious murderer during a mindfulness retreat. According to Netflix, when Björn attends a mindfulness class to improve his work-life balance, he finds new ways to cope - including murder.
In the show, his wife, Katharina, gives him an ultimatum: fix his work-life balance, or she will leave with their daughter. So Björn starts this mindfulness class, and slowly, he becomes calmer and begins to focus on the deeper things in life. Serenity is what Björn seems to be desperately seeking in the end. When his family time is interrupted by one of his more brutal clients, Dragan Sergowicz, Björn solves the problem for himself; he kills the crime boss.
The show is just as faithful to the book, so anyone who has read the novel has a much better chance of enjoying the show.
