According to an update from Erik Menendez's daughter, there is a decision on the future of the Menendez brothers, likely to be presented in the next 60 days. This recent news has revived further interest in the lives of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were found guilty of murdering their parents back in 1989.

Instagram stories on the account @seterikmenendezfree report that an update would soon be received in an appeal filed last May. It's regarding a Los Angeles County District Attorney's office ruling related to newly discovered evidence of abuse excluded from the original trial.

Erik’s daughter, in her heartfelt plea, expressed her hope for their release, saying:

“They have spent more time incarcerated than alive in the real world.”

This comes at a timely juncture with Ryan Murphy's Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, redefining the controversy of the case.

For the first time in more than three decades behind bars, the brothers have hope. The case will be decided by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, which is currently considering their appeal.

That appeal was founded on newly discovered evidence that can prove that the brothers were subjected to henious abuse by father José Menendez.

According to Erik Menendez’s daughter, the decision could lead to various outcomes:

“Option 1 is time served, meaning they would prepare for release. Option 2 involves 3-5 more years in prison. Option 3 would see the case go to the parole board, which could become political. Option 4 means no change, and the life sentences remain.”

This appeal is gaining momentum in light of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series, which aims to shift the narrative surrounding the brothers.

Erik Menendez's daughter was quoted as saying that she truly does hope that the District Attorney and the judge consider the evidence presented and, more importantly, the emotional toll that the case has taken on their family.

“Almost 35 years is enough time locked away,” she wrote.

New evidence sparks hope for Menendez brothers’ release

One of the most compelling pieces of evidence that has reignited hope for the brothers' release is a letter written by Erik Menendez to his cousin, Andy Cano, a year before the murders. The letter, discovered by journalist Robert Rand, details the abuse Erik allegedly endured at the hands of his father.

This letter was never presented during the original trials. It has now been described as a critical element in the brothers' appeal. Rand, who has covered the case for decades, recently shared with The Hollywood Reporter how the letter came into his possession:

“Within 15 minutes of looking through Andy’s papers, I found this letter and thought, ‘Oh, my God, this could be really important to the case.’”

In addition to the letter, the testimony of Roy Rosselló, a former member of the Latin boy band Menudo, has further bolstered the brothers' claims of abuse. In a strange turn, Rosselló also came forward in these days with accusations that José Menendez had s**ually abused him as a teenager: an accusation that was laid out in a piece of a Peacock docuseries earlier this year.

This new evidence has given the Menendez brothers a second chance to tell their version of the case, which was overshadowed by their lavish lifestyle and the gruesome nature of the murders. The decision to be made soon by the District Attorney's office may mark the eventual freedom of the brothers accused of this dastardly crime as public opinion remains divided.

As anticipation builds around their potential release, the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story promises to offer viewers a deeper look into the complexities of their case and the abuse that allegedly shaped their actions.
