Erik Menendez does not have a biological daughter, but Tammi Menendez's daughter, Talia, calls him her father. This remains a curious point, especially with the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

According to Talia, as she stated on her Instagram account (@seterikmenendezfree), she often refers to Erik as her dad, though no DNA connection exists.

In one of her posts, Talia clears up the confusion, stating:

"I am getting a lot of questions about Erik not having a daughter. He does not have a biological daughter, but he does have me."

Talia's connection with Erik began when her mother, Tammi Menendez, started writing to him in the late 1980s during his trial. Tammi was already married but was deeply touched by what she believed to be Erik's wrongful incarceration story.

She wrote the letter that started an endless stream of responses. After the death of Talia's biological father when she was only 10 months old, Tammi moved to California and continued bringing her daughter to visit Erik in prison.

Talia is Erik Menendez's daughter but not by blood

She "met" Erik Menendez through visits to Folsom State Prison, something she's open about on Instagram. Her posts show that the relationship between Talia and Erik was more than just visits.

He ended up being a father figure to her in many ways. In a post from her childhood, she said that visiting him was one of her favorite memories. She wrote:

"My dad was more of a dad than most out in the real world."

Prison trips started when Talia was two years old, and they became a routine, shaping her ideas about fatherhood and family. In a vivid post, Talia even detailed how Erik helped her with homework during those visits, writing:

"I remember the guards allowing us to bring in my homework (up to 10 pages) and my dad helping me with it every visit."

There were few bonding moments shared against the backdrop of prison walls, but what they reflect is a distinct father-daughter relationship, one that Talia values and defends publicly.

Talia also shared that Erik Menendez even staged football games and board games during family visits with other inmates and their daughters. Behind the bars, there was an image of something tight-knit and supportive.

How Talia defends her father Erik Menendez on Instagram

Talia Menendez has become a fierce activist for Erik Menendez, decrying the injustice of his imprisonment across social media platforms. In one Instagram post, she wrote:

"People think they know my dad, his brother, the trial, and the upbringing, but really, they don’t have the slightest idea."

Talia not only talks about Erik's character but also fights the public opinion constructed by the media and the judicial process. Despite the negative comments, Talia reveals she has received a great deal of support.

She notes that more people sympathize with her father than hate him. She continues to defend Erik’s character, pointing out that she is loved and cared for by him, even from behind bars.

Her Instagram account has become an important forum for fans and followers of the Menendez case to gain a personal view into Erik's life and his continued relationship with his family.

In 1996, after the death of her first husband, Chuck Saccoman, who died by suicide, Tammi moved to California to be closer to Erik. It was then that Erik Menendez became more firmly anchored in Talia's life.

According to a report by Capital UK, following his trial, Erik looked forward to his marriage with Tammi and their relationship with Talia. This unusual family dynamic is one of the many surrounding the Menendez family, and Talia's public posts have offered a rare glimpse into Erik’s private life behind bars.

In the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the private life of Erik Menendez, with his wife and stepdaughter, is not addressed.
