As previously mentioned, Monster season 2 will revolve around the murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez, followed by the trial involving their two criminal sons. When asked about the reason for killing their parents, Lyle and Erik Menendez claimed that they had been victims of abuse for a long time, but the prosecutors alleged that their main motive was to claim all the family fortune.

The synopsis of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story reads:

"While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed — and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole — that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story dives into the historic case that took the world by storm, paved the way for audiences’ modern-day fascination with true crime, and in return asks those audiences: Who are the real monsters?"

The two shot their father almost six times and their mother around ten. Lyle and Erik initially tried to frame stories that they found Jose and Kitty dead when they came home and acted innocent.

However, things went out of their hands as Erik couldn't handle the burden of hiding his crime, and eventually confessed to his therapist, Dr. Jerome Oziel. Their trial was widely discussed and was shocking, as they claimed that Jose and Kitty had been torturing them for years, so they eliminated their parents forever.
