Welcome back to the wild and intense world of MobLand! Episode 5, titled "Funeral for a Friend," pushes the tension even higher. Today, we’re diving deep into all the betrayal, backstabbing, secret plots, and the emotional explosions that rocked this episode.

Before we jump into Episode 5 of MobLand, a quick flashback: In Episode 4, the Harrigan family got invited to a funeral that they most likely caused. Instead of an all-out gang war (for now), the stage was set for mind games and silent battles.

The episode kicks off with more emotional and psychological warfare than actual gunfights. But trust me, the tension is so thick, you could cut it with a knife.

Kevin and Harry are trying to wrap their heads around the madness: they have to attend not one, but TWO wakes, one for Tommy and another for Stevenson. Kevin randomly brings up Rusby, a name tied to their painful past in juvie.

Kevin had forgotten about Rusby when Harry first mentioned him. But now, the memories flood back. Rusby wasn't just a guard, he was someone who caused deep pain to both Kevin and Harry.

MobLand Episode 5 recap: Conrad summons Harry and Kevin

Soon, Conrad calls Harry and Kevin to the Cotswalds. They're not going alone, Harry demands that his wife Jan accompany him. Jan thinks it’s crazy but Harry insists. Refusing the funeral invite could trigger Richie into starting a war.

Jan doesn't want to be involved. Why should she go to a funeral of people she doesn’t even know? But Harry explains: appearances matter. Married couples usually attend these events together, and in this world, appearances can be the difference between life and death.

Accepting the invitation buys the Harrigans some time. Rejecting it would scream guilt to everyone watching, the press, the police, and rival gangs.

Richie isn’t looking for immediate bloodshed at the funeral. Instead, he wants to humiliate the Harrigans, to show that even though they might have killed Tommy, they still have to bow to him publicly.

Harry tells everyone not to drink at the event. Alcohol clouds judgment, and tonight, they need to be sharper than ever. He also plans to secretly smuggle weapons into the Stevenson home. Just in case things get ugly.

Harry asks Freddy, one of Richie's men, for help. Freddy is forced to agree because Harry knows a big secret about him; Freddy was having an affair with Vron. If Richie found out, Freddy would be a dead man.

Meanwhile, Brendan meets Seraphina to pitch a business deal. Seraphina is skeptical at first (because Brendan isn’t exactly known for making smart decisions). But when Brendan shows her a rare ruby, Seraphina gets interested. Still, she demands a whopping 75% cut of the profits. Brendan, cornered, has no choice but to accept.

Kevin starts remembering more about the trauma Rusby caused him back when he was a teen. These memories add another layer to why Kevin is so emotionally unstable now.

Harry’s secret meeting

Harry’s meeting with Freddy isn’t about betrayal. It’s a tactical move. He’s making sure the Harrigans have weapons hidden at the funeral, ready if needed.

At the funeral, Richie doesn’t attack physically, he attacks emotionally. He tries to make the Harrigans look weak. Refusing to fight at a funeral makes them seem guilty and scared, exactly what Richie wants the world to see.

Three important things happen simultaneously:

  • Richie pressures Conrad at the funeral.
  • Eddie and Maeve quietly stir trouble to push both families toward war.
  • Bella and Kevin’s relationship starts to crack because of trust issues.

Eddie feels like a punching bag for Kevin and Harry’s anger. Their old trauma has made them harsh and tough, and Eddie bears the brunt of it. He starts siding more with his grandmother, which could spell disaster later.

Much of Kevin and Harry’s anger and coldness come from the abuse they faced at the hands of Rusby in juvie. Their macho image today hides those deep emotional wounds.

Toward the end, Conrad, Kevin, Harry, and others have a private meeting. Richie makes it clear: he knows Eddie killed Tommy. But instead of demanding revenge right away, Richie tells Conrad to keep Eddie away from London, or else he’ll be killed if seen.

Conrad doesn’t exactly agree, but it’s clear he has no choice. Richie has the upper hand now. Maeve, acting on her own, decides that Vron drugged her at a party (even though there’s no real proof). So she orders a bomb planted in Vron’s car.

The bomb explodes, just like in the opening credits (if you paid attention!). Vron is killed. And with that, the unofficial truce shatters. Blood will flow.

It was obvious that something bad would happen, the white car parked at the Stevenson's house was a dead giveaway for long-time viewers. As soon as Vron stepped into that car, her fate was sealed.

Maeve acted recklessly. She didn’t care if she was right or wrong about Vron. All she wanted was a reason to start a gang war, even if it meant endangering her own family.

Episode 5 of MobLand shows that violence isn’t always loud, sometimes, the most dangerous battles are fought with words, pressure, and emotional games. As the pieces move on this bloody chessboard, one thing is clear: the real war has just begun.
