MobLand Episode 1 recap: Harry tries to resolve problems between two gangs

The crime drama MobLand episode 1 began with fixer Harry trying to fix a problem between two fighting gangs, but he is unable to solve their internal problems. Later, with Conrad’s order, he and his associates kill all of the gang members. This creates a vacant position in their heroin business, and Conrad asks his childhood friend, Archie (Alex Jennings), to talk to another group called the Maltese to fill the vacant place in their business.

Later, we learn that the new group is offering Conrad 20% more than he previously made, which is good news for the business-minded Harrigan patriarch, who is trying to expand his business further. This might be one of the reasons for their ongoing feud with the Stevensons, another crime family that operates from South London.

MobLand Episode 1 recap: Is Eddie responsible for Tommy Stevenson’s disappearance?

From the beginning of the series, we encounter the brutality of the Harrigans. Eddie’s rebellious attitude is not any different as he starts to hang out with a Stevenson. They go pub-hopping, get high, and cause chaos as Eddie casually stabs a man in the pub and runs away. However, Tommy is shocked by Eddie’s apathetic act and gets out of the pub.

Eddie then finds Tommy near the Thames River and approaches him. While he tosses the knife that he used to stab the man, Tommy tells him that he is insane. That’s the last we get to see of Tommy.

Tommy’s parents try to look for him and learn that he was with Eddie Harrigan. Geoff Bell’s Richie Stevenson calls Kevin and asks about his son but is unable to find him. He threatens the Harrigans that if he cannot find his son, he might wreak havoc in the Harrigans' lives.

This increases Harry’s task as he goes up to wipe everything related to Eddie stabbing a man, and then meets up with Richie Stevenson, who gives him only until the next day to talk to Eddie and find out where his son Tommy is.

MobLand Episode 1 recap: The Harrigan family emergency meeting and a murder

Conrad calls his family for an emergency meeting to share with them his new plan of expanding their criminal business by beginning to trade fentanyl, which the Stevensons deal with. He tells them about how he plans to offer them a lower price than the Stevensons, which might help him win the trade and expand his business further.

However, Archie objects to his plan, and he asks him to discuss it further if he really wants to start trading fentanyl, which leads Conrad to believe what Maeve told him about Archie being a traitor and working for the Stevensons. Conrad ends up shooting his childhood friend in the chest on the suspicion of being a traitor, only because Maeve told him.

In the end, he seems to be upset about killing Archie and frustrated that Maeve didn’t stop him from killing Archie like she earlier did with Richie Stevenson.

The premiere episode set the theme for the high-octane crime series with a war developing between the Harrigans and Stevensons due to their sons and business. We will further get to see how much more influence Maeve has over Conrad’s decision-making and whether Harry will be able to fix all of the Harrigan’s problems before it gets nasty.
