Missing You is Netflix's latest thriller adapted from Harlan Coben's novel of the same name and released on January 1, 2025. This is not the first time the author has partnered with Netflix for an on-screen adaptation. Coben's other works like Stay Close, Fool Me Once, and The Stranger are also highly-watched series on the streaming platform.
Known for his twists and turns and a seeming blend of intrigue in his stories, this adaptation is a miniseries with five episodes. Early critic reviews are mixed, with a 67% Rotten Tomatoes rating. But it is still too early to judge based on these ratings.
Missing You is produced by Quay Street Productions and Coben acts as an executive producer through his Final Twist Productions. The series is directed by Sean Spencer and written by Victoria Asare-Archer, who is also an executive producer on the show.
Here is everything you need to know about Netflix's Missing You.
What is the plot of Missing You?
Missing You follows Detective Kat Donavan, whose fiancee Josh disappeared without a word eleven years ago. Now, while swiping on dating apps, she suddenly finds his face on her screen again, and her past comes knocking on her door.
Not only is Josh as mysteriously back as he disappeared, but this time, he has secrets of his own. Kat is helping a boy find his mother, and this case directly leads him to Josh and her own father's murder. Is all this connected to Josh, and why did he disappear all those years ago?
Kat will be caught in a web of secrets and suspense as she navigates her professional duties while she finds out secrets buried about her own life, all linking to Josh.
What did Harlan Coben reveal about the show ahead of the Missing You release date?
Missing You was released on Netflix on January 1, 2025. Since it is a miniseries, there are only five episodes, which were released together and can now be streamed on Netflix.
In an interview with Netflix's Tudum, Coben talks about the overlapping themes of the show,
“There’s a bigger conspiracy at work here, one that Kat has to really uncover...But mostly it’s about the heart. It’s about that longing. Most of us have someone in our lives who we’ve dated and, in a sense, is a ‘what if.’ And for Kat, this is the ultimate ‘what if.’ ”
