The White Lotus Season 3 has come to an end, and the wait for the next installment of the anthology series has already begun. The black comedy-drama is one of the most popular shows on HBO, which led to its early renewal for a fourth season in January 2025.
Every season brings together a fresh set of characters who head to a luxurious resort for relaxation, which mostly turns chaotic. The various locations featured in the show have become one of its highlights, and fans are excited to find out where the cast and crew will head next.
Series creator Mike White has now teased the location for The White Lotus Season 4. In an interview with Deadline, the showrunner revealed that for the next installment, he wants to move away from the ocean, which has been a common setting in all the previous seasons.
Mike White teases a new location in The White Lotus Season 4
The creators chose Maui, Hawaii, as the setting for the first season of The White Lotus. The second and third installments were then based in Sicily and Thailand, respectively. All three seasons had one thing in common: a luxurious beachside resort with scenic ocean views.
The waves have also been utilized as a narrative device in all the previous seasons. However, for the fourth season, Mike White wants to try something new and get rid of the waves and the ocean. He said in his interview:
“For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing waves against rocks’ vernacular.”
However, he added that changing the location would not mean a change in theme, as the show will continue to focus on the story of murder at a resort:
“There’s always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
As of now, the makers have not finalized the location for The White Lotus Season 4. In an earlier interview with Deadline in February 2025, HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi hinted that the upcoming installment could be filmed somewhere in Europe:
“We’re going on some locations scouting in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll know soon. I can’t really say where we’re going to land but chances are somewhere in Europe.”
Another hint that we have about the fourth season’s location is that it might not have a cold climate. David Bernad, one of the executive producers of the HBO show, appeared on The Bill Simmons Podcast in March 2025, where he talked about how Mike White might not agree to film the series at a cold location:
“Mike [White] does not like the cold, that is why we will never do it. I feel confident we will never do a season in the cold... Mike is not for it. He is a California guy. He is not built for the cold. Never say never, but I would be surprised.”
The White Lotus Season 4 is reported to begin production in 2026, and details about the location and the cast will become clear at that time. Meanwhile, the third season ended on a high note as multiple deaths took place at the Thailand resort, leaving the viewers surprised.
The White Lotus Seasons 1 to 3 are streaming on Max.
