Mel, Jinx, Vi, and Cait have THIS emotional similarity on Arcane, did you realize?

Arcane is excellent at portraying what being human is, and goes deep into family ties. The main idea of the show is emotions among Mel, Jinx, Vi, and Caitlyn. They are all daughters who lost their parents or living with mentors who gave up everything to have the world at peace and free from war.

This painful thread ties their arcs together and really amplifies the show's broader commentary on war, loss, and legacy. Jay (@tattedvi0lyn), in a viral X (formerly Twitter) thread, insightfully pointed out this recurring motif.

This emotional similarity affects their journey, so let's look more closely at what this Arcane fan meant by their analogy.

The loss of parents was a unifying tragedy for Mel, Jinx, Vi, and Cait on Arcane

One of the strongest feelings is shared grief over losing parents, which deeply impacts Mel, Jinx, Vi, and Caitlyn. These losses influence who they are and what drives them. Among them, Vi and Jinx are the perfect manifestation of this theme.

Being sisters, their life transforms as Vander (the father figure) gives his life to save them. They thus find their way into the harsh undercity of Zaun. This trauma makes Jinx fall into chaos and affects her complicated relationship with Silco, while for Vi, it becomes the basis for her pursuit of justice.

The X thread says that Vander's sacrifice shows the common theme of parents ruining their devotion to their daughters. Mel's story is another part of this emotional journey. She is the daughter of Ambessa Medarda. Her mother intentionally kept her at bay so that Mel would never turn out as she did: cruel.

This distance shows a repeated idea in Arcane: parents making hard choices to keep their daughters safe from themselves or the outside world. Fans think Mel’s pregnancy might expand on this idea, as mentioned by user @BirdsWithScales.

Shimmer was the tragic science of parenthood on Arcane

Shimmer is the most dangerous substance in Zaun, which shows how far parents in Arcane will go for their daughters. Singed tries hard to save his daughter by making Shimmer. This simply shows their sad truth.

As Jay (@tattedvi0lyn) said, "Shimmer was created in an attempt to save a daughter."

It demonstrates how much of Zaun's pain comes from an act of a father's love. This theme also resonates with other characters like Marcus who loves his daughter so much that he does something against his belief system and Silco, who treats Jinx as if she were his biological daughter.

Silco tells Jinx, "You're perfect just the way you are."

This proves the intensity of fatherly feelings even though he is the bad guy. Such choices prove parental love propels a person forward and makes him miserable.

“Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?” is a core Arcane theme

This phrase serves as a sort of emblem of the thematic exploration seen on Arcane via familial relationships. Using daughters as a narrative connector, Jinx and Silco's explosive link and Mel's complicated bond with her mother are expanded. It's the power, sacrifice, and vulnerability for which the series pleads.

Fans on X, such as @MathChoko, noted that Riot Games would probably expand on this theme further in subsequent stories - such as Freljord's Ashe and her mother's inheritance. There is significant space to build on the girls and their lives.

It is less a tale of heroes and villains and more about how personal relationships, especially between parents and daughters, can shape history.
