Mayfair Witches is the second Anne Rice novel to be adapted into a series for AMC's Immortal Universe, and the show has returned with Season 2 on January 5, 2025.

The network had earlier adapted Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, as a part of which Interview With a Vampire Season 1 was released in October 2022. Following the Vampire success, Witches Season 1 released in January 2023 but did not perform as well as its predecessor. The season received a low rating of 44% on the reviews website, Rotten Tomatoes.

Witches follows a neurosurgeon, Dr. Rowan Fielding, who discovers she hails from a powerful dynasty of witches and is reeled into their dangerous world.

The show's cast returned in Season 2, and included Alexandra Daddario in the titular role of Rowan, along with Harry Hamlin, Ben Feldman, Tongayi Chirisa, Jack Huston, and Alyssa Jirrels. Thora Birch joined the cast in Season 2, too.

Early ratings of Season 2 Episode 1 have shown marked improvement, which indicates a bright future could be in store for the show.

More on Mayfair Witches Season 2 in our story.

Mayfair Witches Season 2 shows improved rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Mayfair Witches Season 2 premiered Episode 1, titled Lasher, on AMC and AMC+ on January 5, 2025, and while it is still too soon to form an opinion about the show's success, looking at the six early reviews for Episode 1 on Rotten Tomatoes (RT), it can be assumed that overall reactions will be positive.

Season 1 currently has 36 reviews on RT, and a low score of 44%. Despite this, the show was renewed for Season 2 owing to Rice's popularity. It looks like the creators have left no stone unturned, given the impressive early ratings. Season 2 has opened with an RT score of 83%.

Season 2 had a pressure of contending with the fact that Rice's first adapted show, Interview With a Vampire, garnered a high rating of 98% on RT. It seems like makers have finally realized they have big shoes to fill, and we hope the improvement streak will continue throughout Mayfair Witches Season 2 until its finale on March 2, 2025.

Mayfair Witches Season 2 improved ratings good for AMC's Immortal Universe

AMC's Immortal Universe started off strong with Interview with a Vampire, which debuted in October 2022. It is still considered one of the best supernatural shows on TV and was a huge hit, following which the network decided to adapt Mayfair Witches.

Despite the low ratings of Season 1, the second season has given fans a reason to cheer about. A third installment, The Talamasca, is also underway. A teaser of The Talamasca released a few days back, and the good response to Witches Season 2 could prove fruitful for the new installment.

Creators of the show will hope the positive reviews for Season 2 sustain, since it would be crucial for a possible Season 3 of Mayfair Witches. Overall ratings of the season will, of course, matter.
