The first episode of Mayfair Witches Season 2 was released on January 5, 2025, and delved into the story of Rowan and her half-human, half-demonic son, Lasher. This episode dives into Rowan’s struggle to protect her son while questioning his motives and her own decisions. Let’s break down the episode in simple terms.

Rowan has just given birth to Lasher in human form, but something strange is happening; he’s growing up faster than normal. In just a few days, he’s transformed from an infant to a toddler, leaving Rowan both amazed and scared.

While she sees him as her son, she’s haunted by nightmares of the spirit Lasher returning to claim the child.

Rowan has fortified the Mayfair mansion, making it her base to protect her son. She fears threats from outsiders like Ciprien, who might mean harm, and even from Lasher himself. Her protective instincts drive her to control who enters her world, but the isolation amplifies her doubts.

Visions and warnings

Rowan starts seeing hallucinations of Millie Mayfair, who warns her about Lasher’s dark nature. However, Rowan dismisses these warnings, choosing to believe Lasher is just her child, not a reincarnation of the dangerous spirit. Despite this, she can’t help but feel unsettled by how fast Lasher is growing and his demands to have his powers.

Dolly, an elder Mayfair witch, supports Rowan but with possible ulterior motives. Dolly is thrilled that Lasher is human and sees his existence as a way to strengthen the family’s magical power.

She advises Rowan to seek guidance from Cortland, but that’s a dead end, literally. Cortland has been turned into a stone statue and can’t offer any advice.

Moira Mayfair, Tessa’s grieving sister, comes back to town seeking answers. She wants to know why Lasher didn’t save Tessa, unlike other Mayfair witches. Moira has powerful abilities to read thoughts, making her a significant force in the family’s magical dynamic. However, Rowan remains guarded around her.

Desperate for answers, Rowan turns to the diaries of Katherine Mayfair, hoping they will reveal Lasher’s true intentions. Meanwhile, Ciprien, who is deeply concerned about Rowan, tries to break into the Mayfair mansion but is blocked by magical barriers.

Before making another attempt, he leaves a memory preserved in his Bible, fearing the Talamasca might erase it.

Ciprien is captured by Albrecht, who wants his help to defeat Lasher. The Talamasca sees Lasher as a threat to the balance of the supernatural world and plans to use Moira to capture him. Ciprien, however, remains torn between saving Rowan and stopping Lasher.

As Lasher grows older, Rowan becomes increasingly worried about his demonic nature. She considers ending his life to prevent further harm but can’t bring herself to do it. Instead, she pretends to be on his side, hoping to gain his trust and understand his motives.

During an accidental injury to Lasher, Rowan uses his blood to run a DNA test. She turns to her old friend Sam Larkin, a medical researcher, for advanced analysis. Meanwhile, she uses her magical powers to heal a terminally ill girl at the hospital, demonstrating the good she can do with her abilities.

Moira visits the mansion, determined to uncover the truth. Dolly keeps Moira from meeting Lasher and uses music to prevent her thoughts from being read. Moira leaves but vows to return, while Dolly warns Rowan to stay cautious around her.

In just days, Lasher grows into a teenage boy. Confused about his past, he asks Rowan about Tessa. She avoids giving him all the details but tries to guide him toward being good for the family. However, their relationship takes a disturbing turn when Lasher confesses his love for Rowan, leaving her shocked.

Lasher sneaks out to a club, where he becomes infatuated with a girl. Unfortunately, the night ends in tragedy when the girl dies. Lasher brings her body home, begging Rowan to bring her back to life. Unable to resurrect the dead, Rowan locks him in the basement, overwhelmed by the gravity of her situation.

While escaping the basement, Lasher finds the girl’s ID and discovers she is a Mayfair witch. By the time he escapes, he has fully transformed into an adult man, setting the stage for more chaos in the episodes to come.

The episode ends with Lasher leaving the Mayfair mansion, leaving viewers with burning questions. What is his true mission? Why does Dolly want to keep Rowan in the dark? And how will Rowan’s choices shape the fate of her son and the Mayfair family?
