Matlock Season 1 sets new records for broadcast television as a first-timer

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, the Kathy Bates-starrer legal drama has collected 17 million viewers across all its viewing platforms.
Matlock Season 1 garnered 6.15 million viewers per episode on the same day as they were released. Including a week of delayed viewership, these numbers climb up to 9.7 million viewers.
With 9.7 million in viewership, Matlock Season 1 becomes the top-ranked first-timer non-sports show in broadcast television. In the list for first-year series, including sports series, Matlock Season 1 is the second-most-streamed show, closely following CBS's Tracker.
This legal drama follows Matty Matlock as she joins Jacobson Moore, a legal firm, to try and expose the people who are responsible for the death of her daughter. Pairing up with Olympia (played by Skye P. Marshall), a partner in the firm, Matty tries to expose some deeply buried secrets, but she has some secrets of her own that she's hiding from Olympia.
While helping the other lawyers in the firm with their cases, Matty and Olympia are on a journey full of unexpected twists and turns.

Matlock ended Season 1 with some interesting cliffhangers. Matty is hoping to finally figure out who buried the documents that could've saved her daughter and a million others, but a stranger's entry into her family might end up toppling over every bit of her life that she's built so carefully.
Olympia, on the other hand, is faced with a daunting dilemma as she has to choose between the truth, her friendship with Matty, and her family and career. It doesn't help that she's found out Matty's been lying to her. It will be interesting to see how these cliffhangers will play out in Season 2.
Adding up the same-day viewers, delayed viewers, and streaming viewership across all the different platforms, viewership for Season 1 of Matlock climbs up to 17 million viewers, making it second on the 2024-25 network broadcast season list. It will be interesting to see if Matlock Season 2 can garner similar viewership numbers when it premieres.
Matlock Season 1, developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, explores the relationships between its characters amid lies and deception, and is available to stream on Prime Video and Paramount+. CBS has renewed Matlock for Season 2, but there's no official release date as of now for the hit legal drama.
