Matlock Season 1 finale promo: Matty and Olympia team up to solve the Wellbrexa case

Matlock episode 17, titled "I Was That, Too," finally revealed Kathy Bates’s Madeline "Matty" Matlock’s secrets to Skye P. Marshall’s Olympia Lawrence, making the episode intense.

However, the two-hour finale of Matlock Season 1, which will air on April 17, 2025, is sure to be an explosive one, as, according to the recent promo, Matty and Olympia might come together to solve the Wellbrexa case.

The synopsis of the episodes, titled "Tricks of the Trade" Part One and Two, reads:

"When Sarah’s client is arrested after his business partner is found murdered, Billy attempts to help her handle the case while Matty and Olympia contend with a pressing confidential matter."

Matlock Season 1 finale will bring Matty and Olympia together to solve the ultimate Wellbrexa case

In the previous episode, Olympia asks Matty to scribble down all her lies and confiscates her phone by keeping her in an unoccupied office on the 25th floor. Olympia discovers through the notes that Matty is not a widow, as her husband is alive and well, making her more distrustful of Matty.

However, in the episode, Matty tries to win back Olympia’s trust in their friendship while helping her solve a case about a pregnant woman trying to divorce her controlling husband.

The finale will finally provide an answer, as Matty has already shared her suspicions of Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian Markston (Jason Ritter ), being the one who stole the documents. However, Olympia does not seem keen on the idea of Julian stealing the Wellbrexa documents. However, the recent promo suggests that the duo will probably team up to find out who the real culprit is: Julian or his father, Howard "Senior," the other suspect of Matty.

During an interview with TV Insider, executive producer Jennie Synder Ullman shared how working together will help Matty figure out the case more easily and said:

"Now that Olympia and Matty are working together, they are able to access answers that Matty was not able to get alone and drive towards figuring out who did what."

The finale is reported to be an explosive one, as it will reveal the person responsible for the missing documents, which won’t be an easy task, as it will be marred with many twists and turns.

In the same TV Insider interview, actress Skye P. Marshall shared how shocked she was when she read the script of the finale episode and said:

"When we read the script, everybody gasped at the table read and it was 50% of ‘I knew it’ and 50% of ‘You got to be kidding me. I’m totally blindsided."

Other than Matty and Olympia working together, Sarah will also get her first case to represent Jacobson Moore after Matty destroyed her previous opportunity of fighting a case alone to protect her identity and secrets.

However, actress Leah Lewis told TV Insider that her character, Sarah, and David Del Rio’s Billy might be involved in a dangerous situation with the case that could even harm their careers. She said:

If this doesn’t go right for her, you might not see her in Season 2 because it’s pretty bad. What she did could have gotten her and Billy kicked out of Jacobson Moore.

The promo and the actors’ statement prove that the Matlock Season 1 finale will end the first season of the legal drama with a blast that fans will be left anticipating for a new season.
