Matlock Episode 12 recap: Matty’s breakthrough, Olympia and Julian’s court battle, and more

CBS’ Matlock has aired yet another exciting episode. The 12th episode of the first season, This Is That Moment, is packed with some intense moments and a lot of drama. At the beginning of the season, Matty had joined Jacobson Moore to find the proof of the firm’s link to her daughter’s death.

In the 12th episode, she has a major breakthrough and reaches one step closer to finding the truth as she gets access to Julian’s keycard. Meanwhile, Julian and Olympia’s separation takes an ugly turn as they get embroiled in an ugly custody battle for their respective clients.

Matlock Episode 12 recap: Matty’s plan to get Julian’s keycard

One of the highlights in the episode is Matty gaining access to Julian's keycard. The woman knows Julian goes everywhere in the office with his keycard, which must be heaving information about his past movements.

She thinks with the card, she can prove Julian was in the meeting room when a report arrived that said the drug being sold by Wellbrexa could be harmful. However, the company still went ahead with selling it.

While bumping into Julian at the office, Matty intentionally spilled her coffee on his jacket and then pretended to help him. She then took out his keycard and replaced it with a fake one. Now that she has access to Julian's movement records, it can greatly help in her case going forward.

Matlock Episode 12 recap: Olympia and Julian face off in the court

In Matlock episode 12, Olympia and Julian get at loggerheads with each other during a court case. The two are already going through a messy divorce, and to make matters worse, they end up on opposite sides of a custody case. Olympia is representing Paloma, who is asking for financial support from her rich husband, Bruno.

Julian gets to represent Bruno in court, and his argument with Olympia soon starts deviating from the case and gets personal. He tries to harm Olympia's reputation, while the latter causes him to hide money. The judge gets annoyed with their constant bickering and sends them to a cell for contempt of court.

Now that they get some time with each other, they try to sort out their issues. The two agree that they got too personal and their fight is negatively impacting their loved ones. Though they are still going ahead with their separation, Julian and Olympia decide to work together to settle the custody case in a positive way that could help Bruno and Paloma's child.

Matlock Episode 12 recap: Matty is haunted by painful memories of Ellie

The custody case brings back painful memories for Matty. Years ago, she and her husband, Edwin, fought for custody of their grandson, Alfie. Their daughter, Ellie, had been struggling with addiction. After Alfie burned himself on a stove while living with his mother, Matty believed he would be safer with them.

She did not give Ellie a second chance. As a result, Ellie relapsed and later died from an overdose. Watching Paloma fight for her son makes Matty question her past choices.

On top of that, Edwin has been hiding an email from someone who might be Alfie’s real father. When Matty finds this out, she gets into a huge argument with Edwin. Edwin also admits that he sometimes blames Matty for what happened to Ellie. This leaves Matty heartbroken.
