The reboot of the original drama, Matlock 2024 sees actress Kathy Bates as the legal expert Madeline "Matty" Matlock, a modern representation of Andy Griffith's iconic Ben Matlock in the original series. Considered one of the best TV shows that arrived this fall, the legal drama comes straight from Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman and has an impressive cast of actors.
The legal drama focuses on Matty whose real name is Madeline Kingston, striving to seek justice for her daughter's death. Since this wouldn't have been possible under her original name, the retired lawyer adopts a new name and life to get into the prestigious law firm Jacobson & Moore.

Alfie goes missing in Matlock 2024 Episode 4
From Senior's unexpected betrayal to Matty getting close to finding out the truth, Matlock Episode 4, The Rabbit and the Hawk was undeniably gripping. While Matty Matlock is cleverly keeping her real identity a secret, her challenges in discovering the truth are intensifying.
The story begins with Matty and her husband Edwin desperately searching for their grandson Alfie and then finding him passed out behind the couch in Matty's office. Since Alfie is helping his grandmother on the mission, he stays up late trying to find crucial documents on Olympia's laptop.
Seeing her grandson's situation, Edwin expresses his concern to Matty and suggests that she shouldn't involve him in the quest. Matty agrees not to involve Alfie in her case to ensure he remains on top in his school.
Olympia takes on a legal case in Matlock Episode 4
Before the legal case begins, we also see Sarah seeking Matty's advice on how to impress the cold-hearted Olympia Lawrence. Matty points out that Sarah behaves in an overly emotional way and tends to not listen well, which creates problems for her. She's also facing relationship challenges, but her colleagues decide to help Sarah out.
As the episode continues, junior partner and attorney Olympia Lawrence takes on a new case revolving around Sandy Walton's death caused by a bacteria called Legionella. The woman believed that the building she lived in was responsible for her illness, and after her death, Walton's husband has been trying to sue the building's owners.
While Olympia helms Robert Walton's case, Senior and Elijah sign to represent the owner of the building who also pays almost $10 million to Jacobson & Moore each year.
Julian expresses his concern to Olympia, that if they drop the case, it will lead to a negative impact on other clients. However, they can't also ignore the fact that Senior always prioritizes business over ethics.
Olympia allies with Matty to seek justice for Sandy Walton
As the case continues, new evidence emerges, suggesting what contributed to Sandy Walton's death. It's revealed that Sandy didn't die solely due to Legionella, as a toxic black mold was discovered in the building. Following her tough situation, Olympia joined forces with Matty in Matlock Episode 4 and the two begin to search deep into the case.
Matty and Olympia discover that the corporation that owns the building has been neglecting the building's condition and the chea construct material is resulting in water damage leading to toxic mold. Matty also discovers that the building's owner was trying a legal loophole to escape the situation and offered a settlement amount to Robert Walton.
However, they cleverly restructure their business in a way that Robert and the tenants wouldn't get any money. Despite constant challenges in the case, Olympia and Matty manage to secure a win.
Matty overloads Alfie again in Matlock Episode 4
Despite promising Edwin that she wouldn't take Alfie's help in her quest against the three partners of Jacobson & Moore, she ends up relying on her grandson's tech skills once again. Matty manages to get inside the document room and tries to find the form Alfie told her in the Wellbrexa archives.
However, she learns that almost 342 documents related to the case are missing, which have a digital sign. Since Matty couldn't identify it, she asks Alfie, who lies about being sick and skips school to help his grandmother.
This results in Edwin again telling Matty to stop using Alfie in her investigation, but she only promises not to take his help as frequently. Matty finally figures out that it was Senior's signature who was involved in concealing evidence in an opioid case.
