The second episode of Matlock 2024 arrived on CBS on Thursday, October 17, 2024, following Madeline "Matty" Matlock's undercover plan to avenge her daughter's death.
The 74-year-old lawyer has finally made it to the Jacobson Moore law firm, but before Matty starts her work, she's troubled by nightmares about her professional life.

Their situation gets worse as a sharp-sighted elderly man saw Michael Casey (the accused) drenched in blood at the crime scene, hinting at Olympia losing the case. With just two episodes of Matlock (2024) on CBS, Kathy Bates proved fans love to watch characters like Madeline Matlock. Her seemingly innocent demeanor hides a notable revenge plan, or her determination to seek justice for her daughter's death.
As mentioned above, Matlock (2024) episode 2 didn't just feature a new murder case but also hinted at Matty facing risks of being discovered. As Matty was working alongside Olympia in defending Michael, she was also given just 48 hours to prove the teenager's innocence. So, to ensure a win, Matty got deeper into the case and suspects a store owner near the crime scene.
She leaves no stone unturned and finds out that Michael didn't kill his classmate as he wasn't there when she was murdered. Matty and her team put pressure on the store owner's son Charlie, who later confessed to accidentally killing the girl.
The defense team learned how Jimmy helped his son cover his crime, and framed Michael. Thanks to Matty who gave it all to bring justice to the 18-year-old who could have faced injustice like her daughter.
This way, Matty won her colleagues' trust in episode 2 including Olympia who didn't seem to have liked her at first. However, at the end of the episode, Senior gets suspicious of Matty.
Senior catches Matty's lie in Matlock (2024): Will she be discovered before her plan ends?
Now that Matty won over most of her colleagues' trust and Olympia, she continues to focus on her main goal. The 74-year-old lawyer managed to manipulate and trick Olympia into bringing her food to her apartment in episode 2.
This smart tactic helped Matty use a hidden camera and gather all possible information for her revenge plan. Her plan includes digging deeper into her firm's involvement in the opioid case to prove them guilty.
However, as the episode comes to an end, Senior catches Matty's lie about the Matlock dates. This might add to the growing suspicion over Matty's true intentions, as she was first printed out by Olympia, and now the most important figure in the law firm.
Why Matty is plotting against Jacobson Moore law firm?
The only reason why Madeline Matlock chose to live a fake life in front of her colleagues is due to her daughter's tragic death. In reality, Matty is a wealthy woman who lost her daughter due to a drug overdose.
She aims to find out who out of her three main targets, Senior (Beau Bridges), his son Julian (Jason Ritter), and Julian’s ex-wife Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) was involved in the opioid case in concealing evidence. If they hadn't played dirty, Matty's daughter along with others wouldn't have died so early.
Everyone at Jacobson Moore believes Madeline Matlock to be an elderly woman struggling with financial issues. She's using her charm and wit to find out which out of the three partners is guilty of the crime. However, it's becoming hard for Matty to keep her secret, as she continues encountering new changes every time.
