A 46-year-old man named Hasani Kamau Widemond from Vinings, Georgia, reportedly drowned in the infamous Lake Lanier in Georgia on Saturday, according to officials. The incident occurred while the man was attempting to swim back to his boat from the shore.
This unfortunate event took place, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, just before 2 P.M. Deputies from the Forsyth County Fire Department, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, and Hall County Fire Department responded to the drowning at Bethel Park on Lake Lanier.
The victim was eventually located by conservation officers using boat-anchored sonar at a depth of approximately 25 feet of water. The body of the deceased was recovered by divers. This incident is reported to be the third fatality at Lake Lanier this year.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, between 1994 and 2022, 216 people died at the site, with 140 due to drowning and 70 from boating accidents.
Created by William Anderson and Cindy Estenfanie Kunz-Anderson, a significant portion of the show deals with accounts of near-death experiences in and around the infamous lake, which are equal parts scary and chilling.
What is the Surviving Lake Lanier docuseries about?
The show primarily deals with the history of Lake Lanier, simultaneously bringing into focus forgotten chapters from a bygone history.
Particularly interesting is the once-prosperous Black community of Oscarville, which experienced significant growth in farming from approximately 1800 to 1912. Unfortunately, the town was destroyed by a mob of white vigilantes called night riders following a fatal incident of rape of a white woman, for which the Black community was blamed.
Following that incident, the village was set on fire by locals, forcing the Black community to move out. The Buford Dam was constructed in the 1950s in the same area, leading to the formation of the lake.
Besides focusing on this forgotten act of racial atrocity, the documentary also focuses on the heritage of the Native American burial grounds and the Summerour Mound site, which is believed to be historical remains of ancient Mississippian culture.
