The Mandalorian is one of the more revered stories to emerge from the Star Wars Universe thanks to the incredible dynamics between Din Djarin and Grogu. In the Lucasfilm Disney+ series, the mysterious Din Djarin (played by Pedro Pascal) becomes a guardian to Grogu, a member of a species to which Yoda belongs. The two go on to form a deep bond through the series. Their chemistry and Grogu’s child-like appearance made it one of the most loved characters in Star Wars.
Pedro Pascal spoke about his adoration for his screenmate at the Star Wars Celebration convention recently. As per Rotten Tomatoes, he said:
“I personally love Grogu just about as much as the world. He’s captured all our hearts. I think he represents innocence, curiosity and wisdom, and also a kind of vulnerability that needs to be protected. Because you know that he would do it for us and so I am with everyone else, I am in love. And the relationship becomes more complex, as all relationships do.”
Grogu and The Mandalorian in Star Wars
In The Mandalorian, we are first introduced to Din Djarin, a bounty hunter who travels across the galaxy as a lone wolf. He is hired by the few remnants of the Imperial forces to bring in a child called Grogu. As they navigate through challenges, Djarin takes on the role of the child’s guardian instead. During their adventures, Grogu even uses the Force to save Djarin. The imperial forces continue to hunt them, but Djarin is determined to reunite Grogu with his own kind.
Din Djarin and Grogu appeared together in the three seasons of the Disney+ Star Wars spinoff show The Mandalorian. They will be next seen in the upcoming Jon Favreau’s movie The Mandalorian & Grogu. The movie is written by Favreau and Dave Filoni and is set to premiere on May 22, 2026.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, the audience got a sneak peek into the upcoming movie, which included Djarin in action, Grogu using his Jedi powers, and an unknown character portrayed by Sigourney Weaver talking to the two of them. As per Extra, Sigourney Weaver said about meeting Grogu:
“It was terribly exciting. He really is the most exquisite combination of different things to just make you fall in love — his voice, his ears, his eyes, his little suit. Jon did a brilliant thing.”
She continued:
“I think he’s the perfect apprentice for Din Djarin and I tried to really control myself in the scene not to sort of throw myself at him, to be my character and be professional as well, but I'm not sure I succeeded.”
