What is the plot of Long Bright River?

The official logline for the series reads as follows:

A Philadelphian police officer (Seyfried) assigned to a high-crime neighborhood takes it upon herself to investigate the murder of three women.

The story follows Mickey, a patrol officer on the streets of Philadelphia, who comes across a string of female murders, which she feels are somehow connected to her estranged sister, Casey. Casey is the polar opposite sister, who is embroiled in a world of drugs and opioid addiction, which has taken over the streets of Philadelphia.

The story will dive deep into the themes of addiction and dysfunctional families through an entangled web of serial killings.

In an interview with The Guardian, Moore opened up about her novel, which is now getting a TV series adaptation:

“I was interested in playing with who is on the right side of the law and who is on the right side of morality, and switching those back and forth several times,”

She added:

“There are many interpretations of people with addictions and police officers; both groups, one could argue, constantly on the right and wrong side of morality.”

She revealed that she wanted to create a story about how women support each other through hardships, and the story will depict a vivid picture of sisterhood:

“When sisterly bonds were portrayed in films and books, there was a lot of rivalry and backstabbing. In reality, some of my most important support comes from women and that’s what I’m interested in writing about.”
