1922 horror gothic story, Nosferatu, is an iconic film loosely based on Bram Stoker's Dracula. The remake of this silent classic is about to be released in theatres on December 25, 2024, with Robert Eggers directing the film by the same name.

The film is about a young woman, Ellen Hutter (played by Lily-Rose Depp), who encounters a vampire Count Orlok (played by Bill Skarsgård). A series of terrifying events unfold when an estate agent visits a client in Transylvania.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the film's star, Depp calls it a perfect holiday film as it takes place at Christmas.

"The movie takes place in a ChChristmasso there is that, there is snow. There are some jingling bells of some carriage. And Christmas is a time when you wanna watch movies, and transport to another world, and this is definitely that." she says in the interview.

What did Lily-Rose Depp say about Nosferatu (2024)

"Who doesn't love a good scare on Christmas?" she says in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

She excitedly adds how the world of cinema is as such the viewers will feel tuned to the Christmas mood while watching the film. Therefore making it a perfect Christmas watch.

"There are a couple Christmas-y Easter eggs in there, so I feel like if you watch it on Christmas, you'll feel in tune, you'll feel like they're in the same time as you. And, you know, there's snow! It gets pretty cold. Who doesn't love to think about death and the realm of the dead on Christmas Day?"

Lily-Rose Depp talks about how her latest film takes her back to her obsession with Dracula in childhood.

"This one in particular was big for me, because my brother and I were super obsessed with Dracula when we were younger,"

Depp said in an interview with Natalie Portman for Interview Magazine.

"My brother used to dress up like Dracula when he was a kid for school," she added.

She also added that she is a fan of "horror with a soul," and further explained that if we take away the horror element from the film, it is actually about Ellen being caught between a good guy and a bad guy, it is a tragic love triangle.

Lily-Rose Depp talks about the challenges while working on Nosferatu

On the red carpet, Depp explained how Robert Egger (the film's director) made a deliberate choice to make Ellen's perspective central to the film's narrative. This is also done to make it slightly different from the 1922 classic. We see the story unfold through her eyes. Ellen is a character with agency and strength in the upcoming Nosferatu.

“This is a familiar story, but it’s such a fresh take,” she said. “Ellen has so much strength, so much agency, and without giving anything away, she calls the shots in a very cool way. I found her incredibly empowering and inspiring.”

In the interview with Natalie Portman for Interview Magazine, Depp recalls the challenges of the usage of fake blood while shooting, and how it was sometimes scary for her to shoot with a "demon."

"And also when you're shooting in such a precise manner and doing a lot of takes, you end up feeling like you're in this time warp loop with this demon. I was like, 'Oh my god, what is happening?,'" Depp told Portman.
"The eye blood was a lot for me," she added. "Also, there was a moment when -- without giving anything away -- there's a lot of blood on my bare body. And because the camera's so precise, I had to sit in that position for so long."

Nosferatu is set to release on December 25, 2024, at your nearest theatres.
