Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her team are back in NBC's Law & Order: SVU Season 26, which opens with the investigation involving the assault of three law students. The latest season premiered on October 3, 2024, and promises to explore sensitive cases involving se*ual offenses, abuse, and domestic violence.

As the series begins, the first episodes focus on the effect of sexual assault on students and how the justice system sometimes fails to solve such sensitive cases. Throughout the first episode, the officers stood by the victims and gave it all to bring justice.

What makes Law & Order: SVU a fan-favorite police procedural is how some of the episodes are inspired by real-life cases. In Season 26 Episode 6 "Rorschach", the case is inspired by the disappearance of Gabby Petito in 2021, after which her fiancé Brian Laundrie became a suspect.

NBC has successfully released seven episodes of the ongoing season, with the next episodes coming out soon. Read below for more information about what's next.

A quick recap of Law & Order: SVU Season 26 episode 7

Law & Order: SVU is no stranger to addressing sensitive topics and episode 7 "Tenfold" was one of them. The case focuses on a serial rapist who extensively targets women, especially sex workers.

It focuses on Wallen, a young sex worker who's raped and left on the streets after one of her clients left. Wallen called the police and specifically asked for Detective Bruno. Wallen initially hesitates to cooperate with the police, thinking they might judge her for her profession.

However, the SVU team and Detective Bruno gradually earned Wallen's trust and she even agreed to the rape kit which she refused earlier to avoid law enforcement's attention.

As the investigation unfolds, the police discover that a rapist named Miguel Rivera has been assaulting sex workers for some time and many of the workers have been avoiding him due to his actions. Meanwhile, Captain Benson also ensured Wallen's safety.

The episode continued with the team diving deep into the case and integrating Rivera whose alibi is weak. Eventually, the investigators confronted Rivera's sister Tiana who helped them build a case against the rapist.

In the end, the SVU team was able to earn justice for Wallen. The episode also sheds light on the difficulties the marginalized communities, especially sex workers face in getting justice.

Now that this case has been resolved, the SVU team must get ready for another life-threatening case. Make sure to watch the next episodes arriving on Thursday.
