NBC recently confirmed the departure of a prominent character on Law & Order: Organized Crime. The character of Detective Jet Slootmaekers, played by actress Ainsley Seiger, would no longer appear on Law & Order: Organized Crime. Not only was Jet the youngest member of the team onboard Law & Order: Organized Crime, but also functioned as the team's computer wizard. Her departure was written in on the NBC show's narrative as she took up a job offer made by the FBI.
Here's everything that we know.
Why did Jet leave Law & Order: Organized Crime?
The latest episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime was titled Paranza dei Bambini and featured the exit of Detective Jet Slootmaekers. The character was a familiar part of the NBC show over its five seasons. The character underwent a traumatic experience on the second episode of the fifth season, titled Dante's Inferno, after she was assaulted by a suspect during the course of an undercover operation. Jet subsequently took a leave of absence.
The show further revealed in the next episode that Jet was offered a job by the FBI and that she had rejected the offer. Eventually Sgt. Ayanna Bell advised Jet to reconsider the offer, and that's how her exit from the show was facilitated.
Despite being the youngest member on the team, Jet was a proficient computer wizard and was great at her job. She was usually responsible for gathering and looking up any sort of information that could be located in a database. She had also played an important role in developing the profile of the serial killer who was responsible for committing the truck stop murders.
Ainsley Seiger opens up about her character and the show
Seiger was born just a year before the Law & Order spinoff, Special Victims Uni,t first started airing. Speaking in an exclusive interview with E! News, Seiger revealed details from her acting journey and her experience on the NBC show. When asked about how she got her role on the spin-off show at an early age, Seiger recalled:
"It's a wild story. I really, truly feel like I did nothing. After I graduated, I moved back in with my parents in North Carolina. And I was just sending in self-tapes and auditions all the time. Towards January of 2021, I got an audition for Law & Order: Organized Crime. In the email it said that the only talent set was Chris Meloni as Elliot Stabler, and I was like, "Aha, well, this would be cool." I sent it in, and I really didn't think anything of it. And then, a week later, I was on a walk around my neighborhood and I got a call from my agents and my manager and they were like, "Hey, you're moving to New York in two days to start shooting!"
She was then asked about the experience of being a part of one of the biggest franchises on TV, to which she answered:
"It never gets old. I want to wake up every day and feel like, "Ahhh, this is so crazy!" And for the most part, I still do feel that way, which I'm incredibly grateful for. But the fact that it is a little bit more normal now is so bonkers to me."
Law & Order: Organized Crime airs new episodes exclusively on NBC.
