HBO’s upcoming DC show, Lanterns, has been in the talks for a while. Starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, the upcoming show is gradually adding and revealing a star-studded ensemble cast.
The latest addition to the cast is actress and model Nicole Ari Parker, who will portray the role of Bernadette Stewart. Parker’s Bernadette is John Stewart’s (Aaron Pierre) mother.
Lanterns will follow the story of two members of the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), as they investigate a murder in Nebraska and stumble into darker and mysterious secrets.

Nicole Ari Parker will play Bernadette Stewart in Lanterns
As mentioned, Nicole Ari Parker will play John Stewart’s mother, Bernadette Stewart. It will be a recurring role.
The official description of her character, shared by Variety, states:
Formidable and tenacious, Bernadette refuses to give up, no matter how insurmountable the odds. At her core, she’s a fiercely protective mother who has worked her entire life to ensure that she and her family will not be passed over.
There isn't much information about her character yet. However, as the description suggests, Bernadette’s character would be one of the strong-willed characters in the superhero show Lanterns.
Besides Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, and Nicole Ari Parker, the cast includes Kelly McDonald as Kerry, a Sheriff. Additionally, Ulrich Thompson will appear as Sinestro, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe.
Not much about the story of the DC show has been revealed. However, in a 2023 Variety interview, the co-CEO of DC Studios, Peter Safran, revealed that the story will be more like True Detective.
