Taylor Sheridan's Landman will finally head into the season finale this week, and the audience is in for a wild ride to witness what will become of Tommy Norris.

While the show has not yet been confirmed for Season 2, looking at Sheridan's legacy, it is inevitable that it will be renewed for Season 2.

The penultimate episode sets up an interesting future for all the characters, especially Tommy, who receives a call from Cami about Monty's likely death, which leaves Tommy responsible for his family and M-Tex's future.

There need to be some big decisions in the Landman finale, setting the story for Season 2. Here are a few things that must be resolved in the finale.

Things to look forward to in Landman Season 1 Finale

1) M-Tex's future after Monty Miller's potential death

Since Episode 9 established Monty is likely dead, there would be a power vacuum in the company. While Tommy is an obvious choice to fill those shoes, Monty has also recently promoted Rebecca Falcone, which complicates things.

Rebecca and Tommy have locked horns since their first meeting, and the woman despises Tommy. This should be a high point for the finale, as the showdown between the two will prove what will become of M-Tex in the future now that Monty is likely dead.

However, it is possible that the issues are not resolved at once because of their complicated nature, but the finale should give some moving points about the company's future to set it for Season 2. This would also guarantee an appearance from Kayla Wallace's Rebecca in the finale.

2) Tommy Norris must choose between his family and work in the Landman finale

While Monty's potential death comes as a shock to many, it might be a catalyst for Tommy in the finale to see what might happen when one prioritizes work over freedom and family too much.

Landman's penultimate episode ends with Tommy looking at a coyote before it is killed by one of his neighbors. This metaphor, paired with Cami's call about Monty's potential death, sets up Tommy's dilemma for the finale, which will also be a high point for the future.

Tommy stepping up in M-Tex is inevitable at this point, but this would mean sacrificing his freedom and family life. The finale must make some reconciliation, and Tommy must make a decision about his and his family's future, setting the story for Season 2. This is more crucial after Jerry Jones' advice to Tommy in Episode 9.

3) The cartel must act upon their threats in the Landman finale

While the Cartel has been a looming threat since Episode 1, Episode 7 saw the cartel spying on Ainsley at her party, establishing that they might harm Tommy's family to get back at him.

It is unlikely that the cartel storyline will follow into Season 2, so they must have a reconciliation in the finale. And for this to happen, they must make good in the finale, and Ainsley might be their target in the finale.

4) Ainsley needs to have an ambition that will set her story in the future

While Michelle Randolph's Ainsley is a main cast, she has hardly had any individual ambition or a personal storyline in Season 1. Unlike her brother Cooper, who made real decisions about his new life with Ariana and her mother Angela, with her interest in entertaining people, Ainsley has spent most of the season around her interest in Ryder.

Season 1 finale must set Ainsley up for a good storyline as she is a strong-willed character. This might happen as the cartel might make her their target, and she could have some growth in the show's future.

Landman Finale airs on Paramount+ on January 12, 2025.
