**Spoiler alet**

Laid, the latest dark comedy from the house of Peacock, has a bizarre and macabre premise, with the first season witnessing a huge number of deaths. The show, based on an original Australian show of the same name, follows a 33-year-old party planner, Ruby Yao (Stephanie Hsu), as she tries to understand why her exes are dying in the order she had a physical relationship with them.

As Ruby and her best friend AJ start tracking down the former’s exes to warn them in a bid to prevent their deaths, there is a problem. Rubys has had many partners in the past, so they need to set up a “s*x timeline” that contains updated information about her exes as well as details of the time she spent with them.

As the show progresses toward its finale, most of Ruby’s exes die and she finds herself in the midst of a love triangle involving one of her exes, who surprisingly is still alive, and a client of hers.

Let us explore all the deaths that happen in Laid Season 1.

Every character that died in Laid Season 1

David, Ruby’s highschool boyfriend

Ruby’s boyfriend in highschool, David, was the first person she had s*x with. He is described as a sweet person by Ruby and she cannot recall why they broke up. David is never shown on screen and his death, due to sepsis, is revealed at the end of the first episode of Laid Season 1, which makes him the first of Ruby’s exes to die. AJ soon realizes her best friend's exes are dying in the order she has been with them.

Brandon Rafferty, Ruby’s ex boyfriend

The first death mentioned in Laid Season 1 is of Brandon Rafferty. Ruby initially cannot remember him, but she eventually figures out he must be the guy who was prone to flatulence during s*x.

Upon attending David’s funeral, Ruby and AJ come to know that Ruby was Rafferty’s first s*xual encounter, a reason he was obsessed with her. His obsession continued after their relationship ended.

Brandon Rafferty’s cause of death is not clear for AJ and Ruby, but they eventually suspect he died by a gunshot.

Jeffrey, from college

Ruby comes across Jeffrey, Brandon’s best friend from college, at the latter's funeral and they end up in bed. Later the two get into a fight during a cab ride, with Jeffrey accusing Ruby of ruining his friendship with Brandon.

As an angry Jeffrey suddenly gets out of the cab, he is hit by a car. His body is flung in the air, and it hits the car’s windshield. It is one of the most graphic death scenes in Laid Season 1.

Michael Schloss, the mystery man

Michael Schloss’ character is mysterious because he is among Ruby’s exes who is never shown on screen and none of his details are added to the s*x timeline that Ruby and AJ draw up. His cause of death is revealed to be anorexia. Ruby tells a detective that a stalker might have taken advantage of Schloss’ illness to kill him.

Robert, the man Ruby loved

Of all the people Ruby had a physical relationship with, Robert was the only one she could imagine a future with. Her friends thought the same, too. However, the two broke up for reasons unknown, although the breakup affected Ruby badly.

When Ruby confronts Robert at his wedding, he tells her she is too selfish for anyone to be with her for a long time. This saddens Ruby, who leaves the wedding with AJ’s on-and-off boyfriend Zack.

Soon, AJ learns that Robert is dying of lymphoma, and his death is later confirmed in an obituary.

Stu Jackward, Ruby’s first adult relationship

Ruby thinks of Stu as her first adult relationship, and reveals as much to AJ. Stu Jackward, a baseball player, was the first guy to give Ruby an org*sm. His death comes as a rather public spectacle. Ruby watches him die on television along with millions of others.

Stu dies when the ball hits his temple. His death is shown in a rather comic manner since, when the unfortunate incident happens, the game mascot does not realise what just happened and continues trying to cheer on the crowd.

A bunch of 10 guys

Laid Season 1 Episode 3 deals with 10 guys, referred to as the “S*x Cluster”, whom Ruby dated for a short period of time. Ruby and AJ tried to warn the group but no one apart from one guy named Richie believes her. Soon, the nine others die.

The ways in which guys of the group died are as follows:

  • Simon died in a car crash
  • Jordana and Philippe died in a sauna malfunction
  • Corbin the Clown had a heart attack
  • João was killed because a chainsaw hit his chest
  • Chuck passed away in a rock climbing accident
  • Pete the Bartender died of unknown reasons
  • Lucas/Lug died at a burpees bootcamp due to a colon blowout
  • Brian Glidewell passed away due to unspecified reasons

John Early, the gay man who slept with Ruby

John Early plays a fictionalized version of himself and on the show he decides to sleep with a woman just once. Ruby does warn him about his chances of dying but he does not believe her.

Unfortunately, he dies in a plane crash in which everyone else survives.

Caleb, the bank teller

Caleb is a bank teller and Laid shows Ruby warning him about his possible death from across the counter. Ruby tries to remind him how they had hooked up in the bathroom of a bar.

While there is seemingly no immediate threat to Caleb, a shootout takes place in the bank while Ruby is at the spot with a detective, leading to Caleb’s death.

Aubrey, Ruby’s only girlfriend

While the majority of Ruby’s exes are men, she dated a girl named Aubrey the two were shown to be in love, too. According to Ruby, Aubrey was the only person she felt connected to apart from Robert.

Ruby reaches Aubrey’s tattoo parlor to warn her about possible death but fails to muster the courage. Instead, she tells Aubrey she wants a tattoo, in order to gain time. As they chat up, Aubrey is accidentally shot in the head. She dies instantaneously.

Marcus, a recent partner of Ruby

Marcus is a Chocolatorium waiter and one of Ruby’s recent partners. It is revealed in Laid that he and Ruby hooked up only once and the s*x timeline mentions his clean bathroom as a detail.

Ruby learns about Marcus’ death from Isaac when he comes over to tell her that he believes in the death-s*x connection that Ruby talks about. Isaac further informs that he had gone to Marcus to warn him, but witnessed helplessly as the latter became the victim of a fatal fire.

Brett Heely Trio, a band

Laid Season 1 Episode 8 showed the death of the Brett Heely Trio, a group of three musicians Ruby booked to perform at Isaac’s parents' anniversary. Their deaths happen on stage due to different reasons.

The first band member dies from shrimp allergy, the second gets electrocuted, and a massive chandelier hits the third one. It is after the death of the three men that Ruby decides to transfer the hex to their upstairs neighbors.

The first episode of Laid Season 1 has Ruby going out with Jason and the season concludes with his death. Jason and Ruby had three dates before sleeping in his apartment. Although the s*x was bad, Ruby felt the curse had ended because Jason was still alive after a month of the incident.

However, Ruby is proven wrong when she comes to know of Jason’s death at the zoo after his race.
