Know these 5 Star Wars facts before you watch Andor Season 2

If you are a Star Wars fan, you know that there were forces in play much before Luke Skywalker destroyed the Death Star during the Battle of Yavin in Star Wars: A New Hope. Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna), a member of the Rebel Alliance, was one of the people responsible for getting their hands on the Death Star plans.

The Star Wars spinoff show Andor follows Cassian and other rebels who are gearing up to fight the Galactic Empire. The series is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The critically acclaimed show returns to Disney+ with its second and final Season on April 22, 2025.

The first season of Andor, which is set about five years before the events of Star Wars: Rogue One, focusses on Cassian’s early life and how his journey as a rebel began. We are also introduced to many of the characters from the Rebel Alliance who would go on to play major parts in the stories that follow.

The second season will see Cassian and the Rebel Alliance create a path to bring down the Empire. Before the Andor Season 2 airs, here are a few things you should know about the franchise.

1) Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The audience were first introduced to Cassian Andor in Rogue One where he teams up with Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones) and other rebels to steal the Death Star plans. Andor takes place years before the events of Rogue One, when Cassian was still finding his footing in the rebel movement against the Empire.

Rogue One is the prequel to Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, just before the Battle of Yavin. It is Cassian and Jyn’s sacrifice that leads to the eventual destruction of the Death Star. Season 2 will lead directly into Star Wars: Rogue One.

2) Cassian Andor’s life on Ferrix

Andor revolves around Cassian, a boy from Kenari who was rescued by Clem (played by Gary Beadle) and Maarva Andor (played by Fiona Shaw) and lives in Ferrix with his adopted family and the droid B2EMO. He starts acting against the Empire after Clem is killed by the Imperial officers.

Cassian manages to steal a N-S9 Starpath Unit from the Imperial Empire. He takes the help of his friend Bix Caleen (played by Adria Arjona) to sell the Starpath Unit discreetly. Luthen Rael (played by Stellan Skarsgård), the buyer, is impressed with Cassian’s skills and convinces him to join a rebel mission in Aldhani.

3) Orson Krennic is back

Director Orson Krennic is part of the Imperial Military Intelligence. He is on the mission to build the Imperial Empire’s most destructive weapon, the Death Star. In Rogue One he intimidates scientist Galen Erso (played by Mads Mikkelsen) to finish the Death Star. His daughter manages to escape the Imperial officers and is rescued by rebel Saw Gerrera (played by Forest Whitaker).

Krennic oversees the Death Star’s test fire on Jedha City, which results in its complete destruction. In Season Two of Andor, Krennic will be overseeing the process of constructing the Death Star.

4) What happened on Ferrix?

Ferrix is a free trade planet and Cassian Andor’s home. The Imperial Security Bureau led by Supervisor Dedra Meero (played by Denise Gough) is looking for Cassian. After having gone through several challenges, Cassian returns to Ferrix, which is now under the Imperial authorities. Maarva has passed and Bix has been arrested.

During Maarva’s funeral an imperial officer tries to stop the pre-recorded speech by Maarva asking people to fight the Imperial Empire. This leads to an all-out war between the people and Imperial officers. Syril Karn (played by Kyle Soller), an inspector who was previously discredited, helps Dedra during the chaos. Meanwhile, Cassian secretly rescues Bix, who has become a shell of herself after being tortured for information. He sends off Bix and others on a ship, and goes to join the rebellion.

5) Rebel Alliance takes shape

Andor gives us a look at how the rebel alliance took shape in the initial days and lead to the events of the original Star Wars trilogy. We get to see Luthen Rael, senator Mon Mothma (played by Genevieve O’Reilly) and Saw Gerrera in action as they work against the Empire.

Mon Mothma has been supporting the rebel movement using her family funds, but she is worried as Imperial auditors are looking into her financial dealings. She takes the help of a childhood friend to set up a foundation as a front. Meanwhile the ISB is looking for Axis aka Luthen Rael, who the authorities believe is leading the rebel movement. It is during her search for Axis that Dedra comes upon Cassian. It remains to be seen if Jyn Erso will make an appearance this season.

Andor Season 2 will premiere on April 22, 2025, on Disney+ with three episodes.
