In the Easter Sunday episode of American Idol Season 23, the Top 20 gave their all on stage, but not all of their performances resonated with viewers. Although there were many heartfelt performances of religious hymns, Baylee Littrell's performance was disappointing to the audience. Even though Baylee has musical ancestry, he is the son of Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys, he found it difficult to connect during his performance, which caused social media to go into a tailspin of sadness.
Although Baylee has potential, fans pointed out that his voice lacked the force and emotional nuance displayed by other competitors that evening. Many thought his performance fell short of the high expectations of the evening, particularly in light of the standing ovations given to performers such as Breanna Nix and Canaan James Hill. Because of his poor performance at such a crucial point, several viewers even questioned whether Baylee was prepared for the battle at this level.
After the episode, there appeared to be disagreements among the fans. Some claimed that Baylee's performance was among the night's weakest, while others countered that his entry into the Top 20 was only possible because of his father's devoted fan following. This led to an internet debate regarding popularity versus merit, with viewers arguing about whether his success was more due to his legacy than his talent.

"Scare yourself to death" — American Idol judge Lionel comments on Baylee's performance
When Baylee Littrell took the American Idol stage in episode 11, his father, Brian Littrell, gave a moving rendition of "Gone Without Goodbye." According to the judges, the 22-year-old from Alpharetta, Georgia, gave one of his best performances of the season, with emotional depth and vocal control.
Although he commended Baylee's attempt, Lionel Richie urged him to continue stepping outside of his comfort zone.
"Put pressure on yourself. Scare yourself to death from this point on," he said.
Luke Bryan pointed out that he has room to improve, particularly with better pronunciation, while Carrie Underwood praised his strong tone.
