Netflix has officially canceled Kaos after its well-received first season, leading fans to initiate a boycott against the streaming giant. Since the release of Kaos, fans have been praising the unique and incredibly engaging modern retelling of Greek and Roman mythology.

The story follows Jeff Goldblum's paranoid God Zeus, who becomes even more selfish after discovering that a prophecy regarding his end might come true.

Apart from Zeus, Kaos also featured other figures like his fellow God Prometheus (Stephen Dillane) who was enduring a punishment, Aurora Perrineau as Riddy or Eurydice, Janet McTeer as Zeus' wife Hera, and many other figures from the Greek mythology living in a modern world.

The series ended with eight episodes with the finale featuring Zeus' downfall after he did wrong with the mortals and fellow Gods. Kaos fans expressed a strong desire for the series to be renewed for season 2, and expansion of the narrative. However, the cancelation news has been highly disappointing with many ready to boycott Netflix:

Another user also expressed a similar reaction to the news and mentioned canceling Netflix:

User @No_Neighborhood_5706 also commented about Netflix focusing on increasing subscribers, instead of focusing on what they like to watch:

"If they're so h*ll bent on numbers and on increasing subscribers that they cancel a show a mere MONTH after its release they are supposed to notice. The point is to make them understand that canceling great content and losing subscribers are connected, even if it doesn't make quite the dent."

Kaos not only engaged viewers with its modern take on the genre but also led many to explore Greek mythology. From Zeus being a selfish and paranoid God to Riddy defying the deities and ending up redeeming herself, the series perfectly blended dark comedy with profound moments, mythology, and action-packed drama.

But now that fans won't get another season, they are left with no choice but to highlight their frustration. However, Kaos isn't the only beloved show canceled by Netflix, as there have been several cancelations that fans didn't expect.

Kaos creator Charlie Covell talks about the show's unexpected cancelation

Following fans' frustration over the cancelation, Charlie Covell has finally reacted to the decision and shared their thoughts about it. However, this isn't the first time when fans have demanded Kaos Season 2, as they previously made a petition for the renewal.

The creator's words have been shared by the production company Sister on Instagram, in which they expressed disappointment over the cancelation but also felt grateful for the response from fans and viewers. The post reads:

"There's no renewal... Of course I’m gutted not to be making more Kaos, but I don’t want this news to overshadow what we did make."

The post continues:

"...I’m extremely proud of our show... I’ve been chuffed to the point of overwhelm by your positive responses to the show — thank you!..."

Covell mentioned reading Reddit theories about the show and how fans easily pointed out the easter eggs in the series. This leads others to discover the show and enjoy the narrative.

The Instagram post is also flooded with fans criticizing Netflix for not renewing the show for season 2. The series is considered a masterpiece and fans are hoping for the streamer to reconsider their decision.

Did the finale episode of Kaos hint at season 2?

While the show didn't exactly end with a cliffhanger, the story could have been expanded following a few events. As seen in episode 8, Zeus finally confronts The Fates and learns that a prophecy only comes true when one believes it.

After hearing this, Zeus got angrier as he believed the mortals and his people would soon turn against him, and that his end was near. The Fates ensure order in the world, and they make prophecies about humans and Gods. However, Zeus burnt them alive, and The Fates displayed no fear when set on fire, hinting they might come back.

Season 2 might have explored what happened to The Fates, and what the world without its intrinsic order would look like. Additionally, at the end of the finale, Zeus tries to use his powers on Prometheus who sits on his throne, but fails.

Zeus discovered a cut on his finger with blood, suggesting that he had become mortal again. This was followed by the Meander River stopping its flow shortly after Prometheus took Zeus's throne.

The self-centered God Zeus finally saw his ultimate downfall after deceiving both: the mortals and his family members. So, if there was a second season, it could have explored whether Zeus accepted his defeat or made another plan to become the King of Gods again.
