Disney+'s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew finally concluded its Season 1, and this modern take on Star Wars lore gave us a different kind of villain in Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood.

While the Star Wars franchise is known for its villains, the most dangerous being Darth Vader, they often come with an origin story of revenge, which mostly redeems them in the end.

While Darth Vader was the perpetrator of evil in the most horrible ways, he did sacrifice himself in the end to save his son, which gave him a redeeming arc.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's Jod reveals his true colors after he threatens to cut Fern's throat and forces her to declare him the captain of the ship. In the finale, he was in his true villainous character, which also revealed his origin story.

The show establishes him as a different kind of villain as he does not have a revenge storyline, like most of the other Star Wars villains. In addition, the show has not yet redeemed him which is also new for a Star Wars villain.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew villain Jod Na Nawood had a different motive

Like most of the villains in the Star Wars trilogies, people suspected that Law's Jod would also be redeemed in the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew finale. Because everyone loves a redeemed villain, this trope has been practiced many times before. But, this modern take tried to do something different with its villain this time.

The show did give him a sympathetic arc in the final episode, where he revealed his tragic back story, like most of the villains on the show. He revealed that he was alone and hungry child living in a hole when he was found by a Jedi woman who saw something special in him.

She decided to train and teach him the Jedi ways, but before they could execute Jod's training fully, the woman was hunted down during Order 66 and was killed in front of his eyes. Jod was left alone once again to starve to death, but he managed to survive the order that wiped out most of the Jedis.

But instead of exacting revenge on the people who brought this fate on himself, like most villain origin stories, Jod had a different purpose in life. He wanted to never be hungry in life again, and he wanted access to all of At Attin's gold in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Like other Star Wars villains, he did not purposefully want any violence, he just wanted to line his pockets with gold.

Can Jod Na Nawood be redeemed in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?

While Star Wars: Skeleton Crew ended without giving his villain a redeeming arc like other shows, where he did not sacrifice himself for others or have a change of heart at the last moment, there is potential for that if the show returns for another season.

Jod cannot be categorized as a typical villain, like Vader and other Sith lords, because he was a morally grey character who wanted wealth at best. But that does not mean he was not evil, as he did plan to make the people of At Attin work for him for his entirety so that he could enjoy the fruits of their labor.

While he does have room for redemption, given his concern for the children, it was good to see a Star Wars character without the same old origin story of revenge or violence.
