The second week of the Jeopardy! Second Chance Tournament began on an exhilarating note on January 6, 2025. The tournament gives past contestants another shot at glory on the iconic trivia show, and the first game of the week did not disappoint. Following Week One's conclusion, which saw Will Yancey crowned the winner, three new contestants stepped up to the challenge.

The Contestants

The players in this match came from diverse backgrounds:

Jonquil Garrick Reynolds is a 40-year-old theatrical wardrobe technician from Ontario Canada. Steve Miller, aged 54, is a retired transcriptionist living in Oregon. Drew Goins is a journalist from Hawaii. The contestants were on their toes presenting what they as deemed their strongest game suit.

Final Jeopardy Question

The Final Jeopardy category was “21st Century Business”, and the clue was as follows:

An early version of this app was called Matchbox, but that name was too similar to another company that offered the same service.

This intriguing question pushed the contestants to think critically about modern technology and branding.

Final Scores and Winner

Both of the contestants on the stage had the right answers and all of them said "What is Tinder?" Here is how the wagers played out:

Drew Goins had the most money throughout the show — $33,400 — getting into the Final Jeopardy. He risked $3,401. he collected $36,801.

Steve Miller went to the final round with $18,400 and his bet was $15,001. He ended up at $33,401, or second best.

Jonquil Garrick-Reynolds thought it wise not to risk her total of $9,800. That led her to the third place with a total amount of $9,800 at the end of the game.

The Correct Answer: Tinder

Tinder has a unique story of creation. The app was initially known as MatchBox while being created at a hackathon in 2012. Sean Rad and Joe Munoz dropped the name when they understood that it was too close to the name of the famous dating service, Match.com.

The transition to the name Tinder, which translates to the fire of connection, was more or less brilliant. Interestingly, Tinder was integrated into the Match Group, which also owns Match.com, thus coming full circle for the app.

A Thrilling Start to Week Two

Drew Goins' victory came down to his strategic gameplay and strong performance in the Double Jeopardy round. His lead going into Final Jeopardy gave him the edge he needed to secure first place. Meanwhile, Steve Miller's impressive wager kept the match close, providing fans with a nailbiting finish.

Jeopardy! The Second Chance Tournament continues, and the excitement and contest only promise to grow. Stay tuned for more updates, clues, and winners from this week’s thrilling games!
