The actor from The Death of Stalin played a major villain in the Harry Potter movies for a long time. Jason Isaacs first appeared as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The upcoming Harry Potter TV series on Max will explore each of J.K. Rowling’s famous books in detail. The author will also be an executive producer for the project.

During the red carpet event for The White Lotus Season 3, actor Jason Isaacs (A Cure for Wellness) was asked by Deadline if he would like to join the new Harry Potter series, possibly in a different role.

Isaacs jokingly said,

"I am hoping to come back as Hermione." He added, "I've sent my audition tapes, but I haven't heard back yet."

About HBO's Harry Potter reboot

HBO has officially announced that the Harry Potter TV series reboot will premiere in 2026. This means Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the Hogwarts characters will return to screens,15 years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was released in theaters.

The reboot was officially confirmed on April 12, 2023, during a Warner Bros. Discovery press event. HBO and Max (previously called HBO Max) will produce the series, which will closely follow J.K. Rowling’s original books instead of introducing a new story.

Last year, many children auditioned for different roles in the show. Reports also suggest that actor Mark Rylance is being considered for the role of Dumbledore. However, according to Variety, Warner Bros. has not yet started official talks with him; they only checked if he would be interested in playing the wise headmaster.

Each season of the show will focus on one book from the series, making it a long-term project. Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that the show will have an all-new cast and is planned to run for about ten years. The studio also promised that it will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved books, meaning it will stay true to the original story and characters.

Isaacs' humor and confidence show his support for the reboot. Even if he doesn’t join the cast, his encouragement is important. As a talented actor known for movies like Black Hawk Down (2001) and TV shows like Star Trek: Discovery, his praise for the new team suggests that the reboot is in good hands. Of course, leading such a massive franchise is never an easy task.
