Ellen Pompeo, whose name is synonymous with Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy will be seen portraying the role of Kristine Barnett in the Hulu thriller drama series Good American Family, which premiered on March 19, 2025.

Pompeo shared that it is a tough story to tell but it was her co-star Imogen Faith Reid’s conviction that made her take on the series.

Good American Family follows the story of a couple who adopt a child with dwarfism, but get suspicious of her real age. The show is based on the real-life events around a Ukrainian girl, Natalia Grace, who was adopted by an American couple. They later claimed that she was an adult posing as a child.

While appearing on ABC’s The View, Ellen Pompeo shared,

‘It is heavy…It’s a tricky subject matter. You know…it involves child abuse. And so that’s you know, you have to do that really the right way. We are gonna tell this story. It’s a tight rope to walk.’

Pompeo goes on to share about her co-star Imogen Faith Reid’s part in her taking on this thriller series. She said,

"And ultimately the reason I decided to do it was, I had a Zoom almost like... 2 to 3 hours with Imogen Faith Reid who plays our Natalia. She is fantastic… It was her and her conviction and her wanting to tell the story. And I have to say that it’s her first lead role ever. Her first role, her first speaking role ever, which is a lot to take on you know. She is from the UK. She is not from here. And she came over and it was important for her to tell this story."

What is the Good American Family about?

We take a turn and we show some different perspectives and I think, it was Imogen Faith Reid’s conviction in telling this story that got me to say that, with her leading the charge we can do this."
