"It's tradition": Love is Blind: Germany's Ilias opens up about his family tradition of changing names after getting married

Netflix's Love is Blind: Germany premiered on January 5, 2025, and after the show's conclusion, the Reunion dropped on January 19. The social experiment's reunion featured engaged couples and participants who parted ways.

The only couple that got married on Love is Blind: Germany were Ilias and Alina. During the show's reunion, Ilias shared how continuing his family name was important to him.

When the male host, Christian Wackert, asked Ilias about changing names after marriage, he shared:

"It's tradition in our family. We've been doing it like that for a long time, and I guess I wanted to make my dad proud. The family continues but I think we talked about it a lot. I'd still prefer it that way. But we've opened up in that regard and found the same compromise that you two have found."

The recently released Reunion featured the only married couple, Ilias and Alina, along with the other engaged couples, and the show hosts Stephanie Brungs and Christian Wackert.

Sharing how females "change" their last names in his family, Ilias said it was "tradition" and that's how they had been doing it "for a long time." He confessed how he wanted to make his dad "proud."

Listening to what Love is Blind: Germany star Ilias was referring to, the female host, Stephanie Brungs, responded that he was talking about a "double-barreled name."

The male host agreed that it was "nice" and "definitely an idea":

"Usually, you're well-prepared and know exactly how stars are aligned."

Lightening the atmosphere, the hosts then talked about astrology and told Ilias and Alina about them both being "Geminis." They discussed how one of the traits of such individuals was being "stubborn." The male host asked about other traits of Geminis.

Love is Blind: Germany star Ilias mentioned that "stubborn" definitely "rings a bell."

"In the first year of marriage, we learned that we both can have our own opinions and accept the other side. We don't always have to agree. It was a big lesson to accept each other more in each point."

Alina added that "not always being right" is how everybody has their "own truth" and how they do not always need to "always agree." The female cast member said they were "oftentimes" just "benalities" and that they didn't matter.

She added that she and her husband, Ilias, both being Geminis, also like to communicate. She mentioned how they both "talked a lot" and had "great talks." Alina shared:

"So, yeah. We like to do things, but we're also emotional. Even if he won't admit it."

Further on the Reunion episode, the hosts asked Love is Blind: Germany star Marcel, whom she called a "Double Scorpio," about his "star sign" discussion with Jen, and what happened during the experiment.

Listening to "Double Scorpio", they all had a laugh. The host apologized to Marcel, stating that the trait had become his "reputation." They further discussed how Marcel and Jen don't always have an "easy constellation" between them.
