"It's a thing that was a big issue for me": Love is Blind: Germany star Alina on changing her last name after marriage with Ilias

Love is Blind: Germany's last episode, The Reunion, aired on Netflix on January 19, 2025. The latest episode of the social experiment featured participants sharing their takes on various situations and discussing various things.

One of the cast members, Alina, who married Ilias during the show's finale, shared how changing her last name had been a "big issue" for her. By the end of the episode, Alina revealed that she had changed her last name and opened up about it:

"It's a thing that was a big issue for me, that I had a tough time with. But yeah, it was a decision I made to also show you how important you are to me. Even if I said it would never happen, but just take a look."

Love is Blind: Germany Reunion: Alina reveals struggles she faced about changing her last name after her marriage

At the beginning of the reunion, the female host, Stephanie Brungs, asked Alina about the surprise she had for Ilias:

Seeing Ilias surprised, Alina said that she "loved" that look on him. However, to make things even more interesting, the male host, Christian Wackert, said they would discuss it "later."

"You have to wait a bit, sorry," said the female host.

They all talked about "the challenges" that Ilias and Alina faced during the first year of their marriage. A clip was played during the Love is Blind: Germany reunion, featuring Alina and Ilias's conversation about their issues.

"I've always said I don't want to give up my name. I feel like if I changed my last name entirely, I would give up a lot of my identity," shared Alina.

However, while sharing his thoughts, Ilias mentioned that it was "common" to take the "man's last name" after the wedding.

"You basically marry into a family," said Ilias.

While discussing the topic, Alina agreed that she understood what it meant for Ilias for her to change her last name. Later on, Love is Blind: Germany star Ilias said they should "toss a coin," and said:

"Heads, I win. Tails, you lose."

He added that he was "kind of stubborn." Listening to him talk about stubbornness, Alina said that if that were the case, they were "both stubborn."

Witnessing the clip, the Love is Blind: Germany hosts told Ilias that he was "smart" for suggesting how heads would make him "win" and tails would make Alina "lose." Either way, his side would win the bet, and Alina would have to change her last name. Everyone laughed about the joke while Ilias accepted that Alina "called him out" right away.

"We two have the great fortune of having picked two very modern women who have every right to their names. What are your arguments for your name?" asked the male host.

The reunion episode ended with hosts sharing how, at the beginning, Alina "teased" a surprise. The male host then asked Alina to reveal the "surprise."

She then fetched a box and revealed how that has been a "big issue" for her. She mentioned that she did it because she wanted to show how "important' he was to her.

Love is Blind: Germany star Alina then handed over the box to Illias which he opened. It contained their wedding picture with "Mr. and Mrs. Pappas" (Ilias' last name), which Alina revealed that she has taken up as her last name. Seeing that, everyone cheered for the couple, while Jen got emotional seeing the love between Alina and Ilias.
