Andor Season 2 is gearing up for its streaming premiere, and was, not surprisingly, one of the big attractions at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. The entire cast and crew of the upcoming second season was there to promote the solo series revolving around Diego Luna's Cassian Andor, including Kyle Soller and Denise Gough, who play Syril Karn and Dedra Meero respectively.

At the celebration event in Tokyo, the showrunners and actors gave countless interviews to media outlets. In one such interview to ScreenRant's Ash Crossan, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller spoke of what to expect from Syril and Dedra's relationship in Andor Season 2. Gough was the first to speak:

"But there's two relationships, isn't there, in the show. And so there's Syril and Dedra and there's Bix and Cassian, and Bix and Cassian have had in their lives examples of love, community, loyalty, all of that stuff. And neither of these people come from that. So there's something really interesting about playing, like, what happens when two people who have no skills at any of that stuff? What happens when they're in a room together or in a relationship together?"

Soller went on to say:

"It shows what the oppressive regime of the empire does to love, which is to restrict it and restrain it and manipulate it. And Syril and Dedra's love is actually, it's quite intense, but it's strangled by the empire and how they were brought up and the world that they live in. It's really tragic actually at the end of the day. And so in terms of power couple ranking, they're at the top."

What do the comments of the Andor Season 2 actors mean?

Both prequels from the Disney Star Wars era, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Andor, have shown the true oppression and horror of the Empire. In the original trilogy, we are shown the wider impact of the Empire. But in Andor, we also learn that all those who work for the Empire are miserable, too. They are constantly encouraged to be selfish in order to climb the ladder.

It is a fascist regime that discourages things like community building and loving someone. In fact, characters like Syril and Dedra can't even trust their family, as the first season reveals that the former's mother, Eedy Karn (Kathryn Hunter), frequently kept tabs on his actions and reported them.

Kathryn Hunter's Eedy Karn will be a part of Andor Season 2, Kyle Soller has confirmed.

Kyle Soller reveals that this scene from Andor Season 2 is one of his favorite moments from the entire series

Asked about his favorite moment from the show, Kyle Soller talked of a scene involving Eedy Karn in Andor Season 2. Soller's described the scene as "the dinner party from hell."

Appreciating Hunter's performance as Eady Kam in the scene as well as in the show overall, Soller said:

"Kathryn is not so much of a well-kept secret anymore, but in England she's a dame — she's a living legend. And what she achieves with Eedy is nothing short of magnificent, and then when you plop her in Cyril and Dedra's hermetically-sealed weirdo, funko apartment she just swans in and blows the place up with her weirdness."

Dedra Meero actress Denise Gough said:

"It's this kind of weird, domestic 'meet the mother-in-law' scene, and she comes in entirely dressed in color and Dedra's like 'what is going on?'"

Soller further added:

"She's spilling her stuff everywhere, she's eating everything. She's dripping stuff everywhere, and is just like 'deal with it.'"

The first three episodes of Andor Season 2 will be accessible to stream on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
