Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec discussed various topics during his November 5, 2024 podcast appearance. The tech entrepreneur attended Jane Lu's The Lazy CEO Podcast, where they shared many incidents, including the similarities between the two, being an immigrant, and more.

In one of the segments, when Jane Lu asked Robert about the "immigrant mindset" and if he thought it "helped" him, he responded:

"It's helped me and it's hurt me. I used to think it always helped me. But here's the problem. I know if you experienced this. As an immigrant, you always feel you have a chip on your shoulder."

Shark Tank mentor Robert Herjavec shares his thoughts on the "Immigrant" mindset with Jane Lu

Shark Tank investor Jane Lu's podcast episode Robert Herjavec: We Lived in a Friend's Basement for 18 Months featured Robert Herjavec. They both recalled being an "immigrant" and how school days were "hard" for them for various reasons.

Recalling how things were alright, but then suddenly things changed since his first day of school, Robert Herjavec stated:

"When I realized we were poor, yeah, because I didn't know, you know, poor when you're small is relative to who you are. So I grew up in a village with dirt floors, we had an outdoor toilet. I just took Hudson and Haven to a farm. And there was an outhouse."

The Shark Tank mentor also recalled how kids at school made fun of him because of the cultural difference and because he didn't speak the language back then. That was when he realized he was an immigrant in a "different country."

Sharing more about the "immigrant mindset," Robert mentioned how he felt he needed to "prove" himself. Jane Lu, also an immigrant, quickly felt relatable. Robert also mentioned one of the things he had learned from fellow billionaire Shark Mark Cuban:

"So one thing I've learned from Mark Cuban, he is unbelievably confident. So when Mark walks into a room, he believes it's always going to work out. So I just had this conversation with him and I said, 'Mark, if you start a new business or something, what do you do if it doesn't work out?' He was like, 'It's going to work out.'"

When Robert asked about the possibility of things "not working out" and the "downside," Mark told him there was no downside.

He also recalled how he used to say that he might not be the "richest" guy in the room, but being poor was something that would never happen again. He added that it was about "avoiding" going backward. Shark Tank's mentor said it helped him, but he had to change his "mindset."

Fans can catch Robert Herjavec cracking deals and investing in various exciting business ventures on Shark Tank Season 16, streaming on ABC.
