It’s going to be a big game between the Duttons and Whitfield as has been hinted by Brian Geraghty. Geraghty plays Zane in 1923, the Yellowstone prequel starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton respectively.
The official synopsis of 1923 reads,
“The Duttons face a new set of challenges in the early 20th century, including the rise of Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.”
The second season will be the final one of the show and by the looks of it, things will get wild. As Geraghty mentioned, there is a major showdown that is going to take place between the Duttons and Whitfield over the land that the Duttons own and on which Whitfield plans to build a resort.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Geraghty teased the upcoming big battle between the key antagonist of the show and the protagonist Duttons, saying,
“I think it's going to take everything we got and then some.”
Let us now explore in detail what else Geraghty said about this epic fight and what can be expected to happen in the upcoming episodes of 1923.
The Duttons and Whitfield are going to lock horns in 1923
In an interview regarding 1923 Season 2 Episode 4, Geraghty said to ScreenRant,
“Having Spencer will definitely be an asset, but will he make it back? The thing is that Spencer's journey is so arduous and long, we're like, "Will he come back and help out?" I think that's what it takes. I don't think it takes an army to defeat them.”
He further added,
“I definitely think it's worth watching. There'll be a lot of satisfaction in the last couple of episodes for the audience. At least, there was for me as a reader [of the script]. I actually love the journey for Alex and Spencer. It's really interesting, and I love the historical aspect of Alex coming in through Ellis Island and Spencer going through Galveston.”
How words clearly show the level of intense fighting that is going to take place in 1923 before the show wraps up. Interestingly, Geraghty mentioned that the Duttons might not need a whole army to win over Whitfield. He probably was hinting at their intellectual power as Alex has been established as a well-educated and wise character.
Moreover, if Spencer makes it on time to his family, their chances of overpowering Whitfield would increase significantly. Besides Whitfield, Banner, his right-hand man might also be an important part of this showdown. Moreover, since Whitfield had cleared the tax debts of the Dutton ranch in the finale of season 1, it might make him legally capable of taking over the ranch.
It remains to be seen how the Duttons approach this situation and if they can successfully take advantage of Whitefield’s characteristic flaws and weaknesses to secure their win over him.
