Shark Tank judge Kevin O'Leary recently shared an Instagram clip featuring himself alongside Daniela Cambone on her show. Attending the discussion from a remote location, the Shark Tank mentor broke the silence on how to negotiate trade and more.
Sharing his views on Canada's economy and how it is at a "turning" point, Mr Wonderful raised a question regarding the leadership. He pointed out how "premiers" have been visiting various regions and "doing deals" on their own.
Referring to the current situation, Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary shared his opinion:
"What happens is people figure out, no, we can't build 16 aluminium smelters in the U.S. in less than 15 years. So we're going to have to do a deal on aluminium. We can't grow wheat in North Dakota without potash and 100% of it comes from Canada. We don't want to cut off $13 a barrel discount oil out of Alberta because that's what it's going to take. Right now, it's chaos."
Shark Tank mentor Kevin O'Leary shares his views about the economy on The Daniela Cambone Show
Kevin O'Leary recently attended a debate on The Daniela Cambone Show, as shared by him on his Instagram, on March 18, 2025. The Shark could be seen opening up and sharing his honest opinion about Canada's economy. Referring to that he captioned the video clip with:
"Canada's economy is at a turning point, but who's leading? Premiers are scrambling, flying to Texas, Washington—doing deals on their own. That's not how you negotiate trade. We need a federal mandate. Canada's not for sale, but the opportunity for economic alignment with the US is massive—if we don't screw it up."
The show host, Daniela Cambone, asked Kevin who else would help Canada if they could not turn to the US. Kevin O'Leary stated that it was "economics." He mentioned how, despite being able to figure out things, individuals can not build 16 aluminum smelters in the US, and that too in less than 15 years.
That was the reason behind getting a deal on aluminium. Similarly, wheat cannot grow in North Dakota, so it is imported from Canada. Adding some more facts on the prices, Kevin mentioned how they don't want to "cut off $3" per barrel discussion on oil that comes from Alberta.
Stating all these facts and items and how certainty is not here, Shark Tank's mentor referred to the situation as "chaos." He then called out some of the "premiers" who have been visiting various places recently:
"As each premier, you know, goes from one province to another, it's Daniel Smith. She's down in Texas this week. It's Doug Ford. He's here in Washington. That's not how you run a negotiation. You need a federal mandate. You need a leader and we don't have one. It's a bad situation, but I wouldn't fret about it too much."
Kevin O'Leary concluded his answer by mentioning that Canada was not for "sales" and would "never" be. Despite everyone being aware of that, as he said, the economic opportunity was "huge." Hence, combining "economies" would be the "goal."
