Landman recently debuted to fairly positive reviews on Paramount+. Landman is created by Taylor Sheridan of Yellowstone fame, however it isn't anything like the Kevin Costner led drama.
Instead of cowboys and ranches, Landman focuses on oil and mineral rights in the heart of contemporary West Texas. Billy Bob Thornton plays the character of Tommy Norris, a coordinator in the oil business.
The first two episodes of Landman establish the universe in which Tommy Norris operates. It is revealed that he has children and an ex-wife in the form of Angela, played by Ali Larter. Although Angela and Tommy have gone their separate ways in life, they are still seen facetiming each other during the first two episodes.
Additionally, the narrative further hints that circumstances might lead up to Angela returning to the Norris residence in West Texas and assuming a central role in the goings on of the family. This development could hint at a possible reconciliation between her and Tommy.
The term Landman typically refers to individuals who are constantly on the prowl to gather oil rights and mineral rights, thus giving them access to the vast oil reserves that lie underneath the soils of the area. As is true to his occupation, Tommy Norris is more of a oil man than he is a family man. Here's everything we know.
Tommy and Angela's relationship from Landman explained
According to the first two episodes of Landman, Tommy Norris and Angela are divorced and share two children. Angela is married to someone else and lives away from West Texas. Although they are no longer together, they are quite often seen FaceTiming.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, actor Ali Larter revealed that the show might take a turn to where Angela will have a more decisive role to play. She stated that the subsequent episodes will peel the layers off the character, allowing her to assume her true arc. She added:
"So, when you find her, you don't see all that in the beginning, but you get to kind of sprinkle that stuff in. And as you peel back the layers of the onion with her, you really see what makes her tick, and Angela is all heart. She's feisty, she is definitely a powerhouse, but you also see her and how much she loves her family, and what she's willing to do to put them back together."
Larter further spoke about the character of Angela from Landman and the way in which it fell in place with creator Taylor Sheridan's scheme of creating dynamic women characters. She stated:
"Definitely, I think that one of the things that Taylor does best is create these powerful, dynamic, fascinating women, but also show their vulnerabilities and their insecurities, show what makes them crack. So, what was really fun for me was kind of digging into this world and understanding what it would feel like to be in the oil world with the booms, and then experiencing the bust, and what that cost would be to her marriage, and when she lost her marriage, and had to figure out how to take care of her children."
Although we can't say for sure if Tommy and Angela might get back together on Landman, it might seem likely that she'll have more of a role to play in the coming episodes.
Ali Larter opens up about the experience of filming Landman
Speaking about her experience of filming the show in Fort Worth, Ali Larter revealed that it was quite an ardous task. She mentioned:
"You know, we shot (the FaceTime scenes) very, very late. This was a five-month shoot down in Fort Worth, Texas, from January to late June. It was very long and arduous. We also dealt with a lot of weather. It was very high pressure, it was a demanding set. It wasn't this like very relaxed environment, you needed to perform, and I felt it was very high stakes. So, when I actually did those scenes, Taylor came in and directed all of those, and they were towards the end."
