Based on a True Story is back with Season 2, and expect more twists and turns with Nathan and Ava as the true crime-addicted couple tries to get their lives back to normal.
The show follows a couple who seizes a unique opportunity to capitalize on America's obsession with true crime by hosting the podcast.
What's the catch, you ask? The serial killer is the one who helps him with their podcast, and he is a plumber named Matt, who befriends Nathan.
The show is a quirky take on dark humor, and Season 2 is expected to bring more chaos to the couple's lives. Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, with Nathan and Ava getting a little too entangled in Matt's murders when they dispose of Ruby's body in the construction site. They are discovered by Simon.
While the cliffhanger is shocking, Based on a True Story follows a time jump with Season 2 and picks up three months after the events of Season 1.
In addition to the main cast of Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman, and Liana Liberato, Brooklyn 99's Melissa Fumero will join the show as Drew, Ava's friend.

Exploring the details of the time jump in Based on a True Story Season 2
While Ava and Nathan were in a bit of flux the last time we saw them in Season 1, the show follows a time jump and picks up three months after Season 1.
Showrunner Annie Weisman confirms in an interview with ScreenRant that the idea for a time jump was very organic as their actor and character both had a baby. Actress Kaley Cuoco had a baby, and the time jump felt very organic for the show.
The time jump also allows the couple a change in their dynamic, as they will juggle parenthood for the first time.
''...But the new baby just felt like a great, and real, reset for us to kind of move forward in season 2 that now, as parents, they kind of face a new world with new challenges, and then we have a new mystery story to tell, as well.''
Things are also looking forward for Matt and Tory, who managed to keep their relationship a secret and are now engaged. The dynamic between the two couples will also be interesting.
''Well, we love the idea of having the challenge this season, of thinking about, "Is Matt redeemable? Can a serial killer change?"...'it's her love of him, her belief in him, that he can transform and adapt, and that maybe serial killing is more like an addiction that you can enter recovery from."
What to expect from Based on a True Story Season 2?
With the time jump, and as Weisman revealed in her interview, the new season will be a rest for all the characters.
The new mommy, Ava, will focus on her job as a real estate agent, and Nathan will return to training his private tennis clients. But how long will Ava be able to control her obsession with true crime?
It's only about time the couple will find themselves entangled in a new mystery with a string of killings. Is Matt responsible for these, or is a new serial killer at loose?
