Highs of The Split

One of the most extraordinarily brilliant things about the show is its stellar cast. Thus, Nicola Walker plays Hannah Stern, a divorce lawyer trying to manage her work with the complicated family dynamics in her own life.

Stephen Mangan plays Nathan Stern, Hannah's husband, lending additional weight to the somewhat complex marriage story. The numerous main and secondary characters of the show include Deborah Findlay as Ruth Defoe and Annabel Scholey as Nina Defoe at the very least, who helped fill in the story with nice subplots.

It has got appreciation from the critics for its originality and authenticity in relationship and legal profession portrayal. The Guardian calls it

"gorgeously slick, witty, and thoroughly grown-up tale of high-end divorce lawyers."

A vivid portrayal of marriage, family, and self-development, it has been written by Abi Morgan, the creator of the show, in a quite thoughtful manner. On the other side, "The Split" is quite grand visually. The camera work is slick, and it fits very well into the London setting. The pace that it has maintained keeps the viewer going, as it balances action in the courtroom and personal storylines rather well.

Lows of The Split

It isn't as if "The Split" has only won the applause of viewers but some would point to its disadvantages. Critics say that at some point, the narrative tends to be predictable, falling into a few familiar tropes of the legal drama genre. While some storylines remain ambiguous, the unfulfilled character arcs feel like a wasted opportunity. Thus leaving the audience wanting more depth in the stories.

However, these are little scraps that are all surpassed in the awesome acting and writing of the show. The series also holds and maintains a solid approval rating and Season 1 is rated positively on Rotten Tomatoes.

Indeed, "The Split" delivers enticing viewing for those who enjoy legal drama fused with human emotion. Having excellent performances, particularly from Nicola Walker, and incorporating perceptive writing makes it a magnificent series. Little predictability saves the show from complete disaster, but its overall quality makes it an engaging addition to any Hulu watchlist.
