Why is Max's The Pitt, not an ER spinoff?

Max's The Pitt is not an ER spinoff, though the creative heads wanted it to be a revival series initially. ER's creative writer R.Scott Gemmil and executive producer John Wells were roped in by actor Noah Wyles. However, Wyles made it clear that he wanted to explore something new with his character, or any of the other cast member's.

The negotiations never became successful, although the trio worked together and created a new medical drama that was completely different from ER. It is entirely a new show with new character dynamics.

Among significant changes is Noah Wyle's casting as the senior Dr. Michael Robby Robinavitch in The Pitt instead of his ER character John Carter, who starts off as a medical student and ends up an attending physician. Dr. Robby is a busy and dedicated physician who hardly ever get breaks from work. The Pitt brings out the more gruesome side of ER with realistic emergencies.

While speaking to TV Insider, Noah Wyles discussed how The Pitt and his protagonist on the show are different from his ER character. He said:
